PREFACE
The internet has taken over people’s lives. Today, youths and older people alike spend billions of minutes every month on the internet doing different things at different times and at different parts of the world.
With more than 500 million people on facebook, 150 million people on twitter, and YouTube attracting more than two billion people daily, the devil finds unlimited joy spreading and multiplying lies, division and confusion at warp speed via these medium. Do we have to ignore or give up because we think people will not listen to us? Certainly not!
Every month, people share over 30 billion pieces of soft contents, web links, photos, new stories etc, on facebook. There are 90 million tweets a day on tweeter and millions of videos uploaded every minute on youtube. Why should nt we flood them with God’s word?
During my research, I discovered that the most “liked” fan pages on facebook in 2010, were Lady Gaga, the Twilight saga, Starbucks, South Park, and Mafia wars., whereas, Church Organizations, Education, Pharmaceutical and Libraries, ranked among the least “liked”. Again, movies, the world cup, Iphone, Justin Bieber were among the top ten status updates in 2010 on facebook and twitter.
Today, the world is officially and irrevocably connected in online social communities. For us Christians, it’s a time of answered prayer. As we determine to share the gospel, we now have the Internet, which is fast proving to be the main communication artery to the people’s hearts and minds.
And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. – Romans 13:11, NIV
The gospel clearly outlines our charge. No more excuses. Wake up, believer. It’s time to go here, there, and [digitally], everywhere. So are you in? Does your faith in Christ fold into your online conversations? Why or why not?
In September 2009, I got instruction to write and encourage students, to use their time online effectively to share the gospel of Christ to the cyber world, academic interruptions and other personal engagements slowed the book, from June 2010, I began to spread the soft copy for editing and evaluation. There had been challenges in getting real time information, however, I am grateful to God; the work is now a reality. Do not ignore this message, become diligently involved in bombarding the internet with God’s word and you will see the rewards and benefits flow in your life.

FOREWORD

I met Sobere one fine morning online (Facebook). While we got chatting, he asked me if I had a relationship with Jesus Christ, and I affirmed to the positive, coincidentally, that was what I was going to ask him before he did, perhaps he was smarter. We moved on to another topic, we had a long debate on a topic in the Bible for which we later came to a resolve.
Because of this, I became very interested in him, and we got talking regularly, on phone, and via emails and chats., I enjoy it so much when he calls me often and we share deep spiritual insights together, I was surprise that a man of his age was willing and bold to share the gospel on a social site like facebook, especially looking at the geographical area where he comes from and lives. A time came, he introduced me to his facebook group, “Spread the gospel of Jesus” now called “Effective Internet Evangelism” with over 1800 members from around the world, where we both share the gospel to our members.
Internet Evangelism has become the drift in this modern day, as much as I know, In the USA where I come from, a typical internet user spends at least over 15 hours per week online whereas in Canada, an average internet user spends 42 hours a month. It is also worthy to note that 98% of all computer users in the USA are online. . I am proud to say I have many friends whom I told about internet evangelism and today they are active in spreading the gospel online, join us today!

This book has practically highlighted some of the ways through which everyone could maximize and make worthwhile his time online, I urge you to spend time reading this book and working on it, I recommend this book and the author to everyone regardless of age and location.

INTRODUCTION

Governments of various countries around the world have done their best in the eradication of corruption, crimes, violence, terrorism and other social vices that plague the world today; many have come to realize that inspite of their efforts, they cannot completely deal with these societal menaces. The only lasting solution to the problems faced today is the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
When a man gives his life to Christ, God gives him a new heart (Ezekiel chapter 36 vs 26 to 27). An armed robber for instance will remain a criminal until his heart is changed notwithstanding his loots, there is no external factor or remedy outside the gospel of Jesus Christ that can be adequately used to transform men and transport men to heaven.
The good news is that we have the power to change our society by changing the people in it, starting from the individuals we meet daily, those we relate with through the World Wide Web including those we don’t even converse with. All of God’s powers for change are wrapped up in the gospel of Jesus Christ which is preached to unbelievers.
The number of individuals accessing the internet on a daily basis breeds by the minute; it is changing the way things are being done daily. Over half of the world’s adult populations are on the internet, yet a good percentage of them are not born again, most of them have not heard the name Jesus Christ in their entire lives.
This book was originally intended for students alone, but I discovered that today, most social networks are paraded by students and the working class as well. I was rather shocked to find my friend’s grand mum on facebook years ago.
Chapter one gives a quick analysis of what the internet is, and the simplest description of how it works, it is not intended for academic purposes. Chapter two is an epigrammatic summary of the word evangelism, which is often being misunderstood by youths who feel it is same as carrying a folder bag moving from house to house.
Chapter three introduces the theme of this book, and relates some reasons why it is encouraging to use the internet for the propagation of the good news of the gospel.
Channels through which the gospel could be spread are discussed in chapter four and other channels apart from evangelism were also discussed in chapter six. Chapter five gives a short advice, simple rudiments on how to protect you from the dangers of the internet while doing the work of the Lord.
Chapter seven briefly name the profiles of some selected great men of God that have made impact in the field of evangelism, through all the channels mentioned in this book and chapter eight conclusively states some of the rewards a dedicated soul winner stands to enjoy.
In all, internet evangelism is more about globalizing the world with the gospel through the internet.
While reading the book, get your laptop, find someone on the internet now and tell the person how much Jesus loves him and share with him some of the great things God has done for you. This is the essence of this book INTERNET EVANGELISM.









Chapter One

ANATOMY OF THE INTERNET

O
ne may be surprised as to why the title of this chapter is called anatomy of the internet. While I was making my research and planning the chapters of this book, I thought of putting in a bit of biology into the piece Anatomy is a sort of biological verbiage, so why the use of the word Anatomy?
Typically in biology, anatomy means the construction of the human body. Here we are looking at internet’s anatomy as a detailed analysis of the internet.
The internet is a trend that has come to stay in the life of technology today.
So what then is the internet? The internet is a network of computer networks interconnected by communications lines of various compositions and speeds, or simply put; it is a network of networks, a mega network.
The growth of the internet has become explosive and it seems rather impossible to escape the bombardment of the .coms seen constantly on television, heard on radio and read in magazines. Because the internet has become such a large part of our lives, a good understanding is needed to use the internet effectively, though brief and straight to the point, it is a basic concept anyone can catch easily for the benefit of Christian evangelism.
How does the internet work? You might ask, good question! What makes the internet work at all is something called the internet protocol (IP), you may have heard people using that word in your school or workplace. Every internet protocol has a unique address known as an IP address. A protocol is a set of methods or a way of doing things. Let’s take an example; you hear your phone ring, the next thing you do is of course pick it up and you say “hello” or maybe in a more normal setting you say “hello this is Mr. Owengospel speaking”. Then the person at the other end acknowledges you with something like, “hi Mr. Owengospel, this is Smith calling from New Zealand, Where is the meeting taking place?” Then the conversation continues. This is a generally accepted phone call protocol; there are protocols of doing things in every organized society, so this is how the internet protocol works.

Even though the internet is a global network, it resembles an archetypal live city in many ways, with similar services.
Let’s say you want to send or receive mail from a friend or family member, the internet has an electronic post office that allows you to communicate instantly, you don’t need to buy stamps or move to a post office or wait for a day or two for your message to be received. There is an online library with millions of books and other resourceful materials you can access anytime in the day or night. The World Wide Web is like a giant mall, where you can shop, book a ticket, preview a movie, download music and meet new people from different parts of the world. All of these represent some of the different ways the internet is put to use.
A CHANGING WORLD
Times are changing, indeed, time changes yesterday. How different the world is today, for many people that read newspapers, the chances are you read them in the internet ,get updated and unbridled breaking news right in your bedroom or office, that’s true, many people keep up with happening and events in their country through online newspapers, which are updated frequently. Ours is the world of cyberspace, cell phones that capture and have multimedia functions with videos and music downloads, multimedia text messaging and blogs, now social networks -which we shall take a time to talk about in later chapters etc.
The big question is how will you use these marvelous technologies to further the gospel of Jesus Christ? As we all know, the surge of these new technology and media inventions are altering the media landscape, the internet technology keeps improving and updating every day.

Before now, say in some ten years back, there were over one million books published worldwide every year. Today, a goggle book search scanner can digitize over one thousand pages per hour. The internet is clearly taking over. Americans alone have access to over a hundred million web pages not to talk about Europe or Australia, Asia or even Africa.
Newspaper publication and circulation is dwindling daily, whereas unique readers of online newspaper are over thirty million-daily. Maybe you are part of the number, I am.
Digital advertising is growing rapidly, and more videos are uploaded to YouTube in about every nine hours. The collective number of visitors on MySpace, YouTube, Face book is close to 700 million, yet none of these sites existed ten years ago. I can guess that you reading this book belong to at least one of the many social networking sites available on the internet, such as MySpace , Face book, Tagged, Friendster, Twitter, hi5, LinkedIn to mention a few. What really do you do on these networking sites? You could say, well, “I keep up with friends, or you could even say, I use it to find new ones or reconnect with old friends and classmates”. Well, it’s alright! Some other person could say, ‘Sobere, I use these networking sites to market my products, I mean advertise my merchandise’ - oh yeah, that’s wonderful but pause for a while, do you use these sites to advertise or promote the gospel?
Social networking sites are huge mediums to meet people, reconnect with them, and even do business. Very true, but in my opinion the major use of social networking sites for a born again child of God is to win souls. We shall look at this in detail in another chapter.
The point am making is this, the internet is a huge blessing for believers to take advantage of. Just the way President Barrack Obama out-smarted his presidential rival during the campaign by leveraging on online social networks to raise 55 million dollars in just 29 days that was in February 2008; that was simply 11 million devoted supporters releasing as small as 5 USD from their credit cards. 55 million dollars in just 29 days! No one- on- one campaign and town hall fundraising, whereas his opponent raised 11 million dollars that same month for his presidential bid in fundraising at town halls and other meeting places. How important these social networking sites have come to be!
In the same vein, Christians are meant to leverage on these social Networking sites to propagate the gospel-we should not forget that Satan is also using these mediums to enslave or make captives for hell by using pornography, demonic videos uploaded on YouTube and other video sharing sites, falsified information, dirty pictures and many other agents which he is using to draw the attention of many to himself these last days.
The internet might mean different things to different people –yes! While I was writing this chapter, I asked someone what exactly the internet meant to him- “Sobere” he said, “as you know we use the internet for assignments, emmm, I use it to chat, play games, that’s all” to him, that is what the internet means. He is not completely wrong, assignments, chatting and maybe sending and receiving emails and gaming. To him that’s all of it.
I asked another person and he said relatively the same thing. Assignments, downloads, checking emails, face booking, chatting and playing online games.
Most people are yet to fully grasp the potential of the internet when it comes to evangelism.
Before we move over to the next chapter, I will like to briefly state some general reasons why people go online.
The first of them is to learn, the internet is a metadata base where you can find resources in almost every topic of research. People go online for research purposes.
Secondly, people go online to have fun and entertainment. As the world is becoming more digitized, most young people now rely on the internet for entertainment through games, music, video etc.
Thirdly people go online to socialize. This is where social networking comes in. we shall look deeply into how Christian can maximize the use of these social networking sites in subsequent chapters. Other reasons people go online include shopping, to do businesses, to express themselves etc.
Whether we realize it or not, the internet is making tremendous impacts in the social, business and many other organizational landscapes of our society. The gospel should not be left out,
Below are some five reasons why the internet should be used as a means for propagating the gospel.

1. IT TRANSCENDS SPACE
Geographical distance makes little difference in who can communicate with whom on the internet. An evangelist in Australia may converse with a pastor in Singapore via a server in the UK. You can reach a person in any continent and share words in minutes; you do not need to worry about visas or tickets (airplane) to reach a race for the gospel. You can change lives from the comfort of your sitting room or bedroom, it is borderless. Owengospel Evangel Society aims at reaching to students in North and South Korea, Japan, China and many other Asian countries for which we may not visit, however, the internet brings them closer to us to reach with the gospel.

2. TEXTING
Despite the low sensory quality of text communication, it should not be underestimated as a form of self-expression and interpersonal relating. Journalists can tell you better, the old adage which says “the pen is mightier than the sword” is still correct in the perspective of the internet. Emails, chatting, instant messaging, blogging etc continue to be the most common form of online interactions for reasons apart from their ease and economy compared to other forms of communication.
3. EQUALIZED STATUS / CYBER DEMOCRACY
In most cases, everyone on the Internet has an equal opportunity to express him/herself. Everyone - regardless of status, wealth, religion, race, gender, etc. - starts off on a level playing field. A teenager could reach out to a forty-five year old man who does nt know Christ, or someone of a low “social status” could reach out to another person with a higher social status without feeling intimidated, whereas he may not feel comfortable speaking with the same person face to face. The first time I met my friend Barry Thomas who is about twice my age, I confidently spoke to him about the gospel, until he informed me that he was born again. There are hundreds of older persons I have spoken to about the gospel online. I call this cyber democracy.
4. TEMPORAL FLEXIBILITY
Synchronous communication involves people sitting at their computers at the same time –“in real time”-communicating with others via the internet. it is also known as the “same time-different place” communication mode. Some examples of synchronous communication tools include chat, instant messaging, web conferencing, video conferencing, audio conferencing etc. On the other hand, asynchronous communication occurs when people do not communicate over the internet in real time, email and web logs are some good examples of asynchronous communication model. Communication does not occur immediately, there is a bit of time difference. In both synchronous and asynchronous communication –with the exception of video conferencing and internet phoning- there is a stretching of time. This provides a convenient time for you to reflect and come up with seemingly difficult answers to questions from an enquirer of truth, compared to face to face encounters with the potential convert, you have significantly more time to mull things over, meditate over an issue and compose a reply. This has actually helped me several times, when I am being faced with a question about Christ that I find somewhat difficult, I could use some time to search for answers, from every available resource or call someone I trust will give me the answer incase I do not remember at that time. People reply to say “wow, these words were just the message I needed for the moment” they get blessed.

5. Recordability
Most online activities can be recorded and saved in a computer file for future use or reference unlike real world interaction, the cyberspace user can keep a permanent record of what was said, to whom, the response and the timing. This is usually good and efficient for follow up, when you record a chat session; you could use it in the future for follow up. You will meet thousands of people when you get online to evangelize with them, you could create a file to record your progress, with whom, at what date, what you discussed and promises you made to him etc.
Many people have lots of responsibilities and so may tend to forget, it’s somewhat normal, when using the internet for evangelism purpose, you could record your activities so as not to forget them. Reminds me of a particular lady I was chatting with, from one of the Asian countries, she was doing most of the talking, and so she said so many things, for which I ought to remember, I simply copied everything we discussed and saved to a notepad and added it to my evangelism folder, next time, I will simply go back to the folder to review my conversation s with her, and pray for her. It is a huge benefit of using the internet for evangelism.

Virtually everyone now know the relevance of the internet in the lives of men, I do not want to overemphasize what it is, therefore lets quickly go to the next chapter to talk a bit more about evangelism.



















Chapter 2

EVANGELISM
S
o many years ago, I was in a church study class-more like a Bible school, and the teacher popped up a question, “who can tell me why God did not take us to heaven the moment we became born again?” smart bible student were in the class, trust them-they raised their hands and answered . Some answers were just off the question while some others were close to the answer or- in a sense, the answer. I can clearly remember the answer one of them gave; he said “God did not take us up to heaven because we are to bring glory to him” the teacher nodded and said “well yes, you are not wrong, but for this class, we are looking at it this way”, he said “God did not take us up to heaven immediately because we are to spread the gospel to tell the good news about Jesus!”
Years later while I was reading a book by Billy Graham, I came across the same question, and answer in the opening of one of the chapters of the book!
To many young people, the word evangelism sounds “too religious archaic and old fashioned, it doesn’t sound as attractive as the word “success” or “love”. –perhaps they really haven’t been explained to, the simple meaning of evangelism.
In the simplest form, Evangelism is explaining to a person from the word of God what it means to be a Christian and how to become one. It is about sharing the good news of the gospel with another person. The word evangelism comes from the Koine Greek word “εὐαγγέλιον”, translated as “eu-angelos”, meaning bringing good news.


I believe that one of the main reasons some Christians do not get involved in evangelism is because they feel that unless they can be assured the immediate conversion of the hearer, they feel they are a failure. Some others, as a result of this, when they do not see immediate results they become quickly discourage and give up; they feel they do not have the special gift of Evangelism or that Evangelism in a task for only Pastors, Apostles, Evangelists or Missionaries.
While our ultimate goal in Evangelism is to bring a person to the saving truth in of Jesus Christ, success in Evangelism is telling a person about what the Bible teaches about the creation, constitution and fall of man, and God’s full salvation and redemption package for man through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; telling them the greatest love mankind had ever known, the love of God. [John 3vs 16]
Paul speaking in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 said
“for I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures!
I love the way Reinhard Bonnke, one of the greatest Evangelists of our time puts it, in a video message while he was preaching to a large crowd in Israel said, “ if I am asked to define Evangelism, I will say that it is the fiercely chariot of the Holy Spirit to a burning messenger with a burning message in the wheel of fire” this is passion –and truly ReinHard Bonnke has genuine passion for preaching the gospel. Pastor Chris, another great Evangelist in describing Evangelism in his message “The Missionary Christian” says “it is the best job in the whole world” yes, completely true- think about it, the greatest master is our employer, in the business of Evangelism.
Evangelism is not an option in a Christian life, it in an obligation –not given to only pastors or Evangelists but to every individual who is a child of God. When Jesus said “Therefore go ye into the world…” He was not only talking to the twelve, or those of them there at the time of ascension, Jesus was also talking to you and I.
You might say “well, I don’t know how to preach, I mean I don’t know how to tell someone about Jesus”. But hold on before you go any further with the excuses, telling someone about Christ is not a big deal, I can say that again. Many of you reading this book belong to a football club; some are stanch fans, you can explain to a friend or even a stranger the whole event or the summary of a ninety minute game of how your favorite team won their opponents – I have met many of them discussing after a match, they do it with full enthusiasm and passion- yet some excuse themselves about telling someone about Christ.
Some others are very good at analyzing a movie after they’ve seen it; others have made a fortune in the multi level marketing business, yet they excuse themselves with “shyness”.
The same way you can narrate a movie, or summarize a football game or wrestling watched on TV , that is the same way you can tell someone about Christ. “Sobere, it’s not as easy as you are saying it” well, yes but there are several methods or approaches you could use to do it. In my school’s campus fellowship, we had a night vigil on a particular day, and the pastor was sharing on evangelism, he was passing the message across in a very wonderful way, but the issue then was that many of those in the meeting had difficulties on how to go about it, with the wisdom of God working in him, he decided to pick people to illustrate on how to evangelize. He called out two people, and told them to demonstrate, “assuming one person is a believer, and the other person is not” how the person, who is a believer, would tell the unbeliever about Christ, amazingly, those who thought they couldn’t evangelize realized that- it was not a big deal after all. It was an exciting exercise.
Sometimes, you might think you are not really able to tell someone about Christ until you have tried it, and don’t be discouraged if the person doesn’t eventually give his life to Christ, at least, you have planted the seed, just keep praying for him.
We have different styles and approaches to evangelism, my style in evangelism might not just work for you or your style might not be same as mine, but the end point is “Tell someone about Jesus Christ”.
Before I go further, I would want to remind you that getting a soul converted to Christ is not in your power, it’s not dependent on how eloquent or motivational your speech is. It lies on three powerful forces.
1. The Word of God
Hebrews 4:12 declares
“For the word of God in Spiritually alive and energetically-effective and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrows, and able to judge the conscious reasoning and intentions of the heart”
Paul the Apostle wrote
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God and profitable for teaching, reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness that the man of God may be adequately equipped for every good work”. 2 Tim 3:16-17.
Faith comes from hearing and hearing by The Word of God
(Romans 10:17).
The Bible, which is God’s word, is more than words in a page written down by some men many centuries ago; it is God’s word containing Spiritual power to release Faith and bring change in a person’s life.
Paul said “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel for it is the Power of God unto Salvation.”
It is the Word of God which is the Gospel, the message that transforms.
So, we ought to take a step and share The Word, no prior experience is needed, no qualification- except, of course, you must be born again to do it-that is what evangelism is, talk to someone, now.
The second force that causes a person to be converted is
2. The Holy Spirit
The truth is that the Holy Spirit will not evangelize for us, He is a Spirit and so we need to step out to plant the seed of the word in the heart of men. That is our own part. Until we do our part by planting The Word, The Holy Spirit cannot do his work.
The Holy Spirit’s work in the conversion process is to bring to a person’s memory the Word of God we have shared with them and then quickening to them that the word they heard are true.
The Holy Spirit does not work in a vacuum; His tool is the Word of God. Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 6 vs. 17 “….and take the helmet of Salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God.” The only tool that the Holy Spirit has to use or utilize in a person’s heart to bring them to Jesus is the Word of God.
Jesus speaking, about the Holy Spirit said, “But the helper, The Holy Spirit whom the father will send in my name, he will bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” [John 14:26], The Holy Spirit cannot bring the Word of God to a person’s memory and convert them of their need of Jesus unless they first hear the Word of God. The Holy Spirit cannot even begin to work in a person’s life unless the Word of God has been implanted.
This is where we come in, unless we take the step, the initiative to go out and share the love of Jesus with the lost humanity, the Word will not be sown and the Holy Spirit will not convict them of their need for of Jesus. Our part which is sharing the word of God in the process of conversion is as important as the Holy Spirit’s part in the conversion process.
Paul speaking in Romans 10:13-15 said
“For whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved, how then they shall call upon Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without the preacher [us]….” When we boldly take out time, from our “busy” schedule to share with people the love Gospel of Jesus Christ, we give the Holy Spirit a sword to work with in his heart. Again Jesus said about the work of the Holy Spirit “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin… because they do not believe in me”.
Right in your school campus, or in your office, and of course in your friend’s list, there are thousands who don’t know Christ, tell them about His love….and start today!
3. The Will of the Individual.
The third force that completes the process of conversion is the person’s will. When you share the Gospel which is the Word of God with a person, the Holy Spirit brings the word back to the person’s memory and makes the Word Spiritually alive and energetically effective to convince him that he deeply needs Jesus Christ. However, The Holy Spirit does not force people to accept Him, the reason is simply because God has given to man a free will to choose whether to have a relationship with him or not. Joshua says, “Choose you this day whom you shall serve…” Joshua 24vs15 [Please Study Joshua 24:1-24]
Sometimes the people we tell about the Gospel of Jesus Christ do not accept the message immediately, the Holy Spirit does not compel them or hasten their decision to believe in Jesus Christ or accept him, it could take some time, it’s a process, it takes time, we should not be discourage by this, not even to give up.
However, certain folks have made up their minds against the Gospel, they have consciously become rebellious, they have been spiritually blinded to accept the Gospel; most times the best ways to heal their spiritual blindness is through love and prayers-interceding for the lost souls.
Conclusively we need to always be ready - reminds me of the slogan for the Assemblies of God Royal Rangers, when I was there, we were encourage to always be “Ready”. 1st Peter 3:15, says “but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts-always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you, to give an account for the hope that is in you……”
We always have to be ready, alert and conscious of the Gospel, does not matter which medium we are using to pass the message, whether it is face to face, on phone, through a tract, even if it in through the internet. Look out for someone today, share the Gospel, and start today.

In the school of evangelism, every individual could have his own style. We shall look at some non detailed different styles of evangelism.








Chapter Three

INTERNET EVANGELISM

any people, when they see this title would say, “oh I know exactly what he means, I get the message clear, it’s simply about telling someone about Jesus Christ through the internet….” Oh yeah, you are completely correct, I could give you a medal for that.
This chapter is not intended to create awareness that the gospel can be preached via the internet, most of you already know this, in fact many of you are already practicing it, thumbs up, and God will reward you.
This book is simply a reminder of the potentials and huge possibilities that you as a Christian can maximize in spreading the gospel from the comfort of your home, school, office, coffee shop or where ever you find yourself at any time. As a student of Information Technology in a standard world class university, I spend well over seven hours on the internet daily –some of you spend far more than that though. While online, I have discovered that virtually everyone, I mean every kind of person come online, yes –almost every kind of person talking about age, sex, race, religion and all of what describes a person. There is barely limitation to reaching anyone anywhere in the world. Internet evangelism transcends beyond where other kinds of evangelism which will be discussed briefly in subsequent chapter stops. It cuts across every culture, religion, time, etc, and can spread within seconds.
Just as the apostle Paul used the roman roads and hand written letters in his days to spread the gospel and disciple new believers, we can use the internet information highway with emails, Social networking sites, blogs, etc to do the same today. If you have a Computer with internet connection at home or in the office, you can instantly communicate and disciple seekers of the gospel and believers from any part of the world.
The development of technology has made it easier for us to distribute information across the world very quickly and conveniently. The internet has provided believers of the gospel with a new and better tool to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth. David speaking in Psalms 19vs 1 and 4 says “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmaments shows his handiworks…..their lines have gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world” (KJV)
In this crooked and perverse world, the internet is been hijacked by Satan the devil to capture people’s heart and spread thoughts, fallacies, lies, evil cultures, philosophies, and religions that are against God. Many times Satan uses his agents to attack Christianity harshly; however, the internet technology itself is not necessarily evil.
As Christians, with a great commission, we should utilize the technology to spread the gospel and have our testimony in front of the unbelieving world. On the internet today, people are talking about virtually everything, there is no forbidden topic.
There are also heated communications and clash of thoughts and beliefs, just as the Areopagus and Tyrannus as in the days of Apostle Paul [see Acts 17 and 19]

For us to reconcile and bring men back to Christ, we need to take the gospel to them , for us Christians to have real influence on the trend of thought of this modern world, we need to take the gospel out to them and enter into their speech forum in the free cyber space. We need to use the eternal word of God to cast down the strongholds in the culture and thoughts and every high thing that “exalts itself against the knowledge of God” and bring the hearts and minds of these lost souls to “the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10 vs. 5 [NKJV]

There are millions of internet users today that are earnestly hungry, seeking for the truth and crying out their hearts and souls for salvation.
Evangelism on the internet is a very unique ministry which requires time, patience and endurance to defend the truth and bring the love of Christ and spiritual caring to people in a harsh ad hostile environment on the internet. With the ever increasing number of people with access to the internet, more and more people seek for help with Biblical spiritual guidance and resources especially in countries like Japan, China, and many other Asian countries where Christianity is scarce and restricted. The internet is becoming faster and more convenient; it can easily break through limitations and restraints of time and space.
I have come to understand that people tend to behave and communicate very differently in the virtual world than they seem to do in face- to- face communication. The relative anonymous nature of the internet encourages people to share deep and inner thoughts, worries and questions the way they might never do face-to face. From the luxury of their homes, with an anonymous identity they can pour out everything on their minds. A web user may ask intimate questions from the privacy and anonymity of their homes or offices, this is one of the advantages of online evangelism because it somewhat encourages users to be open and plain about their fears and needs. To a large extent it protects a user who has fears of being identified especially in regions where there are religious conflicts or where the government is out rightly against Christianity. These seekers of the knowledge of the gospel might not know of where to find information about Jesus or would not want to do so publicly, they will turn to and rely on the internet for information on how to become and live as a Christian. Your Emails, newsletters and online bulletins, or social networking sites can be a safe environment for them to find answers to their questions and have an interaction with an internet evangelist.
The internet is a very wonderful tool for delivering the gospel to millions of people, but delivering it is not just enough, there needs to be a vibrant relationship with those who respond. The internet could be used to facilitate new relationships that are aimed at following a prospective target up. Salvation is based on relationship; it is a two way thing. God and man. Jesus has sent us to preach the good news, but in order for it to take root in the hearts of the hearers, we should not just give them the information, we need to share with them a new way of life in Christ, making them understand that Christianity is not a religion, some people wrongly think that Christianity is one of the world’s religions, oh no, it is completely untrue. I love the way Pastor Chris puts it, he said, “Christianity is the pulsating life of God in man” it is not a religion; it is a relationship, a life style. Christ in man, the hope of glory. This is the message we need to tell them.
In the wilderness of religious confusion, we need to speak with a clear and certain voice the word of God. In the World today, there has never been a better platform to spread the gospel to
millions of people at the same time than the internet. It allows us as Christians to interact with people in a way that has never been possible in any other medium of communication.

As we use it wisely, I am confident that the ever saving power of the gospel will save millions
of people that have given up on their lives.
Before we move over to the next chapter, I will like us to see some principles that will guide
in the internet ministry,
1. THE MESSAGE ON DIGITAL TABLES
Habakkuk 2:2
Our Lord Jesus gave us a specific message, specific instructions on how to proclaim it, we need to write the message-the way it can be written by people, put it on tables of which in our days these tables are digital tables, , in the computer. Make it easy to read in every language that is available.
Have God’s word as the source of everything, explain the Bible prophesies, prepare Bible studies and outlines, and put all these on a website, a blog site or on a Social networking site for people to access easily. It could change a life.

2. A MESSAGE TO THE ENTIRE WORLD
We need to realize that the gospel is a message to a global world, not for a particular race or country but for the entire globe
Revelation 14 vs. 6 {NIV}
6 “Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people”
….and one of the easiest means of reaching the entire nations, tribes, language and people is by investing the Word in the internet
Acts 1 vs. 8
“…………………………………; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
We should always have global focus in spreading the gospel starting from where we are, to achieve this world focused ministry, the internet is a unique tool and we need to maximize it.
3. WHY WE SHOULD KEEP A WEBSITE/BLOGSITE IN TOP

31He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."
For every one that has and maintains a Website or blog site, we should remember that most blog sites started by an individual could be seen like a mustard seed, sometimes starting small and shy, but then, it should eventually grow and grow until it becomes a tree, a tree of life! or a source of inspiration. We need to offer the best contents (the tree) so that web visitors (the birds of the air) will come back often to lodge on our website, to make it a source for spiritual guide or a fountain of knowledge. We need to update it regularly (I recommend weekly) add new resources, messages, events, news or make changes to the existing ones. Ensure the site has a good search engine optimization (SEO) so that your website or blog site could be easily found on any searching machine.
4. BUILD A WEB TEAM AND TEACH OTHERS.

Reaching the World with the gospel on line is a task that should be done as a team, which will in turn coach others who will also coach others; it should be an ongoing thread, a chain. It is much easier to work in a team of people so that when you are not there, the work of the ministry will not suffer idleness or neglect. “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”
When we have made up our hearts to work for God we should also remember to do it in line with the Scriptures, doing everything in the name of the Lord with all our heart and might, and strength, knowing that we are doing it to God, not to man to the glory of God.
Internet evangelism is a fabulous tool to spread the gospel, we should bombard the cyberspace with the gospel of our Lord as those who are truly convinced that it works, as an active user of the internet, your participation matters, join those involved today.













Chapter Four

CHANNELS TO INTERNET EVANGELISM

ow we shall take a look at channels through which we can reach out to the cyber community with the gospel of Christ. While there are many other means to reach people online, we shall look into only seven of these many channels. You could reach people through all these channels, or through the most convenient channel you can use.

BLOGS
Blog is the short form for weblog. It is a type of website but differs from the usual site style in several ways.
It is an informal personal diary-type of commentary by an individual, either about his/her life, opinion about a specific topic or cause. Typical blog entries are mainly articles though pictures and video clips can be embedded into the blog site, however, these days, there are typical video blogs, a good instance is one maintained by Chris Oyakhilome in his video blog site, where his teachings are being watched and users enter commentaries about the video teaching they are watching.
Normal entries in blogs are usually short, long posts are usually split so that the remaining or balance of the item is on a new page. Blogging has vastly grown in popularity over the last few years and many Christian evangelists and preachers are yet to fully grasp the potential of the blog sphere. There is a structural difference between a blog and a traditional website, for example, a blog is just one page deep , visitors can only read the latest entry on the homepage, except they follow extra menu links that blogs offer , like; ” about us”, “books I am reading” or “archives”.
Although blogging has its many disadvantages and challenges, it is more convenient and less tasking for Christian Evangelism. You don’t need to have a website design technical skills to begin a weblog for Christian evangelism. You can start by writing articles on why and how people should be born again, you can write an interesting Christ based articles for people to discuss and share their thoughts or views, or you can discuss bible passages for general discussions. Inspiring Christian motivational Video clips can also be embedded in your small blogosphere. Alternatively, you could share your real life testimony and the ones you hear in your church, a testimony on how God saved you or those around you could go far in helping another person to receive Jesus Christ.
A Canadian woman was surfing the net one day when she came across an article of how a woman was healed of Breast cancer, meanwhile she had been suffering from this ailment for over 11 years, upon reading the story, she got convinced that she could be healed by the power of God. After exchanging contact information she embarked on a journey to the United States in search of the woman who has the blog, when she met the woman, she referred her to her church and after hearing God’s word, she got saved and eventually healed of breast cancer. It all began with an article from a blog. She found her way to salvation.
A testimony shared is faith boosted, when you share testimonies of how God is working in your life and in the lives of those around you online, you could boost someone’s faith in another part of the World. Granted, the person might not come looking for you, but somehow, God can save that person with that testimony shared on a blog, somehow. Someday, someone somewhere would goggle your testimony or article, read it and get saved.
Some people are gifted and witty in writing; this is a chance to use their talent to communicate the gospel to people all over the world. You ought to come out and start something, though it is not easy, but it is worthwhile, it is about commitment and patience. After writing an article, it probably will not be read for several months, don’t give up, don’t relent or feel bad, keep posting articles and positive words to your blog, one day , it would save someone from going to Hell.
Many men of God all over the world have been making tremendous impacts through their blog spots, An example is Chris Oyakhilome who has affected millions of people around the world through his spirit filled blogs. There have been amazing testimonies from people signed into his blog and I am one on the millions that have been blessed through Pastor Chris’s Blogs.

2. Twitter.
Twitter is a kind of micro blog service that allows users to send very short updates of maximum 140 characters by SMS, instant messages or from the web to the website where they are viewable by others who have signed up to twitter. It is by far briefer than a normal blog. For many people, the idea of getting yet more electronic messages on their phones or in their emails may sound like a nightmare, whereas, for some others, the chance to share frequent thoughts of God’s word is a huge blessing, like it is to me
Twitter is a good channel to “cry in the wilderness” like John the Baptist did when he was forerunning for Jesus Christ. As Christians who are open to new ways and techniques to reach out for Christ, Twitter should be included in our plans, personally, I believe Jesus was the greatest networker in history-yes, and I am quite sure that if He were walking the earth today he won’t overlook the internet or twitter as a form of reaching out to lost souls.
A few years ago when I first heard about the word Twitter from the legendary CNN interviewer Larry King when he was asking his listener to follow him up on twitter, I did not like the name, I concluded that those who participated in twitting were undoubtedly called ‘twits’, until it finally dawned on me that twitter, if utilized properly could mean a marvelous medium for which I can share the gospel to people all over the world.
Twitter is being used my virtually everyone who “has a name” in the secular world. It is being used to market products, pass across vital and sometimes last minute news, for instance, in February 2009, the Australian fire county used twitter to send out regular alerts and updates regarding the 2009 Victorian bushfires of which during the same period, the former Prime minister Kevin Rudd used his personal twitter account to send out information requesting for money and blood donations to those affected by the fire and where the victims can seek for emergency help.
A person dedicated to using twitter as a channel for evangelism could reach well over a million people in less than two years telling and emphasizing the Love and goodness of God to twitters and their followers.
Notable celebrities, Cable Network media giants, renowned evangelists, powerful politicians and so many others are on twitter, the amazing point is that they have a large number of followers , I can confidently tell you that majority of them don’t know Jesus Christ. This reminds me of a Chinese MBA student I met few months back in front of my school library, after exchanging pleasantries and talking about some few school related issues, I asked him if he knew Jesus Christ, I was very surprise when he said a big no; that he had never heard about him, after I had spoken with him for a while and telling him about Jesus Christ, I invited him for our campus fellowship the next day. I went home wondering how many of his kind have not heard about Jesus Christ. Sadly there are tons of others from his country that are yet to hear about the everlasting love of our Lord Jesus Christ for the first time in their lives, how rewarding and pleasant it would be if they hear about Jesus from you, through twitter, your blogs or any other means. You may not have the chance of meeting these fellows live to tell them how much Jesus loves them, but twitter, Facebook, MySpace and other networking sites online have provided opportunities to reach them, from where ever you are. It is likely that the person reading this book now has an account with twitter, the question is what do you twit regularly? I encourage you to use your next status update and subsequent ones to glorify and tell the World about the saving power of the Love of God., and let it be today.
3. MYSPACE
MySpace is known to be one of the world’s largest social networks with over 125 Million users; it was originally inspired by Friendster. It quickly grew to become the world’s largest network before been overtaken by Facebook. MySpace is a virtual hangout space for teenagers, especially those in the USA. MySpace is a world on its own; it is complete with networking, user content creation and interaction. It allows users upload multimedia files such as videos, music, pictures etc, apart from chatting; it allows users to create mini blogs and lots more.
Bombarding MySpace with the gospel is a great target because many Youths and young teenagers who do not know the purpose for their lives, will be more knowledgeable when these Evangelism driven comments and Messages posted on friends’ walls in my space could change their lives forever.
Although as it seems, MySpace is a hotbed of sin, where Satan has occupied the minds of teenagers with diverse lustful online activities, we ought to take the gospel to these Young people online, it’s unfortunate that many of them are misguided, some do not have parents to monitor their activities online, we should take the gospel to them. Some are dejected and battered and have given up on life. You can find many of them on MySpace; a right word could change a life forever.

4 EMAILS AND IM CHAT/BBM
Almost everyone now has an email account, as much as I know, the vast majority of people using emails sign up with Yahoo Mail.
Over the years, I have been receiving emails, some of them are the popular chain emails with lots of inspiring words and pictures, many of them are so touching and full of insight and encouragement.
It is likely that you have received chain emails, some inspiring, and others very annoying. Truth to be said is this; there are so many people that barely check their emails[regularly], whilst there are others that check them constantly, among these set of people that check their emails regularly, there are many who are not born again, and need regular words for life(life changing words).
Like I said earlier, many of you are terrific writers, when you write an article, it could move someone to tears, and you can write convincingly that the reader would just respond to what you have written about without hesitation. You could take 30 minutes or there about, to prepare a life changing article, filled with God’s word or real life mind blowing testimonies, it should be short and straight to the point or a pictorial chain email to your email contacts, and you could do it once in a fortnight or twice in three months, as is convenient for you. At the end of article, you could put up a simple prayer of Salvation, and then encourage your readers to forward the mail to their friends-and please do not put a threat, for example saying if they don’t send it in 30 minutes that something will happen to them or otherwise, allow them to do it willingly, not out of compulsion or threat. Believe it or loathe it, in a space of less than no time, someone’s life somewhere could be saved from hell, and frankly speaking it is a reasonable achievement, better than not trying at all. God’s word says, there is joy in Heaven when a sinner turns to Christ , so when a sinner turns to Christ through words read from your email, heaven celebrates your effort, how much more if the souls are ten, a hundred, a thousand or more-to me that is success in life.
If you don t have an email, please create, one, it is easy and free to create one especially when you have quality access to the internet. There are lots of free email services, Gmail, hotmail, Live, Yahoo Mail, AOL, etc. sign up and use it for the spread of the gospel on the internet.
Another way you can use emails for evangelism is through chatting. I have seen people who spend over six hours chatting, looking for friendship and taking advantage of others online.
Chatting as we all know, is a conversation between two or more persons about topics of interests, it is a kind of communication done synchronously over the internet. One night, a young man named Kelly encountered a friend in an internet chat room and their conversation moved from business opportunity in Kelly’s country to school , it went this way according to Kelly, “What are you doing online?” Kelly asked the young man, “I am looking for fun, and friends” soon they moved from the public chat room to a one on one chat through their individual IM, they kept in touch afterwards and within a month the young man accepted Christ and became born again in a local church in his area, now the young man shares the gospel online, in chat rooms with people he meets online and with other friends on MySpace
I assumed that everyone knew what chat rooms are until I met a girl who did not. During our conversation, I got to understand that even though she had been going online to do some researches and other stuffs, she had never attempted to chat with anyone. A chat room is simply a web page which can display typed messages in real time. When several people are logged on to the same chat page via the Internet, each can type short messages of a few words -often with accepted abbreviations- onto an area in the web page. Each messages, and replies from the others in the chat room, are immediately visible to all the participants as sequential lines (with identification of the writer). Chat rooms are also a valuable method of sharing faith in cross-cultural situations, even in the 10-40 Window - because there are chat rooms for almost every country, ethnic community and language in the world. Returned or retired missionaries can 'visit' their country as often as they wish! If you wish to do this, it is important to understand the culture and religion of the group.


Many years ago, just after I finished high school, I visited cyber cafes to keep up with friends in other parts of my country and other parts of the globe, I spend time chatting with people I find accidentally online, telling them about the good news, I point to them about Jesus Christ and how much he loves and cares for them, how much he has been good to me and my family. Many times, I prepare a short message with Bible references and send to everyone in my contact list, I might not know how effective that might have been, perhaps someone was saved with those words, I was just sowing the seed.
Now many people have their own personal computers, you could start sowing seeds of God’s word to people in your contact list, I am pretty sure you don’t know everyone in your contact list personally, am also sure many of them you know are not born again, don’t hesitate, make out time, and send them the Word of God“….for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes..”.
Before I proceed to the next channel for online evangelism, I would like to state five ways to effectively use the chat rooms for evangelism
1. If you don’t have a chat identity, please create one, I don’t advise you to use your personal or business email for this purpose, spammers and Junkers could take advantage of you.
2. There are varieties of chat room options, open chat rooms include web-based chat options that can be accessed using a browser, some online services offer these web-based chatting software like ebuddy, meeboo and the rest of them. Another option is that you could download the software directly to your computer, some are Skype, yahoo messenger, hotmail messenger etc
3. It’s sometimes better to do this in group of two or more with the same purpose [two good heads are better than one] begin a conversation about Jesus in the Public chat room and let others join you.
4. Remember that people you meet online are Christians and non Christians; many will say what they think and feel, sometimes bluntly and rudely. The conversation can become intense and heated up; know when to draw the line, allows the Holy Spirit to guide you.
5. Before you go online , spend time to “put on your amour” [Ephesians 6 vs10-18]
Don’t go into chat room without first taking time to pray and ask the Holy Spirit for the right words. Job knew this when he spoke in Job 6 vs. 25 “How forcible are the right Words”. Don’t spend your time arguing, just use the right words on those you are chatting with, your part is to sow the word in their hearts and the Holy Spirit will perfect the seed sown.

Youtube/Live Broadcasting/Podcasting
With the growth of high speed broadband connections, high quality and lengthy video clips have become an integral part of the web experience. As connection speed increases, it is practical watching satisfying live streaming TV or full lengthen video clips online. Special events can be webcast or streamed live on the web, many churches are doing this already. It is not hard to imagine anything in the World we live in today, videos and pictures take us to the most remote and imaginary adventures we have ever had. Our world is a place where pictures rule the day. Aristotle once said “the soul never thinks without a picture” Mike Murdock said, “a picture is louder than 1000 words”
It was in 2006, with the rapid growth of YouTube, that the significance of short video clips as a communication medium became apparent. Short video clips that are evangelically driven can cause tremendous changes in the lives of its targeted audience.
Viral communication is a very good strategy in the spreading of evangelical videos; it should spread in the internet like a virus, short and straight to the point. With the affordability of hand held devices like mobile phones, iPods etc., it becomes possible for one to store a portfolio of video clips, share them with friends and unbelievers for the primary purpose of spreading the gospel.
Short video clips are very strategic in internet evangelism. A lot of people spend lots of hours watching videos uploaded online. For example, in YouTube alone, records have it that over 35,000 video clips are uploaded every single day, and there are over 35 million downloads from YouTube daily. As a Christian with a mission to evangelize on the internet, you could create short video clips, with Christ focused contents and upload them on YouTube; every video uploaded should always point to the Salvation of souls. When uploading a video for evangelism on YouTube, remember your target audiences are unbelievers many of them will not watch your video clip if you make them too “religious”. From experience, it is advisable to use some form of general or secular words to attract them to watch your five or ten minute’s video.
Many Christian students have fabulous talents; some of them can prepare and edit video contents or animate any subject of interest. It is time to use these talents for the propagation of the gospel online. Videos and animations are very strategic tools for evangelism in countries like Japan, Korea, and China etc. Sincerely, many souls in these countries are hungry and thirsty for the gospel, unfortunately they are been deprived of this by their Leaders, but the good news is that there is a way out, they can be reached for the gospel, the internet has made it a lot easier. As Multimedia students and as a person with the expertise of creating animations and video clips, it is time to take up the challenge to reach out to this gospel hungry audience by creating evangelistic materials and sharing them in Social Networking sites and video sharing sites.
There are individuals and great commissions that are already doing these, Chris Oyakhilome, a profound Bible teacher for instance, has a heavy presence in the internet media, in his website, there are lots of great online tools he uses to reach the millions across the continents for Christ. The Love world TV network, the video blog, the live radio stations, and many more. There have been testimonies of how people have been saved and healed from these online resources. David Ibiyeomie, another great man of God has also been making tremendous impact through the use of LIVE broadcasting stations to spread the gospel, I remember watching a LIVE service one Sunday when he mentioned that a man watching the LIVE service from the United Kingdom had been healed of an ailment, few weeks later, the man wrote in and testified of how he was healed after the word of Knowledge was spoken by David Ibiyeomie.
Another live story of a woman in Australia, who was surfing the internet searching for names of drugs she could purchase to kill herself silently, while she was contemplating the suicide and surfing the internet, she stumbled across a broadcast, it was actually a Live broadcast, and at the moment she started listening to what the man in the Live video was saying, the man said “ there is a woman watching right now, you are thinking your life is not just worth it and you want to take your life, I want to let you know that Jesus Loves you ….” After the Pastor had said the word of Knowledge, she fell on her knees and gave her life to Christ in front of her computer, she in due course located the Church which is thousands of miles away from her, she gave her testimony and today she is alive and actively serving God.
Now there are millions of people in other parts of the world today who are going through this same problem, others do not have the freedom of worship even though they know there is an almighty God, others have not even heard about Jesus for the first time, maybe because of the stringent policies their countries have on Christian fellowships. These people have strong broadband internet connection at home and in their offices, so they can participate in online Christian activities, from opening prayers to praise and worship sessions, to hearing the word of God and even to giving their tithes and offerings through their credit cards online.
Many multinational companies have their staff in huge oil rigs miles away from onshore, some of them stay away for as much as six months and do not have any Christian fellowship in their rigs., they are also all connected to the internet, so they can watch live services online from the ones broadcasting and many of them could be inspired to open a fellowship right inside the rig and have their colleagues fellowship with them. Such are some of the massive benefits of online live broadcasting of church services, and uploading Christian messages online, you may not know who it is benefiting somewhere in the world.
My friends and I have been blessed several times from live broadcast, and I know that if you have ever watched a live broadcasting service with a good internet connection, you have been blessed as well, I do not hesitate to send links of the URL (uniform resource locator) of the live broadcast I am listening to, to my online contacts, many of them return to thank me, and letting me know how much they are blessed from the message or the praise and worship session.

FACEBOOK
Facebook has suddenly become the dominating social network in the cyberspace, according to research; it began as a small networking site for college students to keep in touch with themselves after graduation. Today Facebook has grown into a very large social community with over 500 million users from every part of the globe. It began with people between the age range of 16 and 26, but today, one will not be surprise to find his grandmother on Facebook!
The sporadic growth of online networking has been a huge blessing to almost everyone as it is being leveraged maximally to communicate and share information. When I first signed up for Facebook years ago, I saw it as an opportunity for soul winning, the same day I joined, I opened a group called “spread the gospel of Jesus Christ”, where we exchange ideas on how best to spread the gospel to the dying online community. Interestingly, the group began to grow, and the vision of the group was being achieved as people participated actively and sharing amazing testimonies on how they got saved from daily doses of the gospel messages sent to them, others shared on how they are involved in some form of evangelism online.
Facebook is a hotbed for the spread of the gospel to people because of the large convergence of a large population of youths, it is where most young people especially University or College students spend their free time and when they are bored.
I have taken time to study Facebook; I discovered that many youths find it as a very interesting and fun filled meeting place. Almost every young person wants to register their presence on Facebook
If Facebook were to be a country, it would be the fifth largest country; it would be the most cultural diversified country as well, with the most of religions. Businessmen, small and large corporations use Facebook to advertise and promote their products and network with their staff in other parts of the world. Celebrities use face book to keep up with their fans as well as promote their new songs and video albums.

The Big Question
The big question is how should a believer maximize the use of Facebook for the benefit of the gospel? How have you used Facebook for the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ?
As a child of God who seeks to obey the great commission in every way available, the use of Facebook for evangelism is incredibly worthwhile, many people have over hundred friends in their friend’s list, they could be high school friends, neighbors, distant and close relatives, colleagues in the office or classmates in school, or even people that added you randomly that you do not know, about 80% of them may not be born again or may not have even heard about Christ. Facebook is a good facility or channel to use to tell them about the gospel. I do not want to believe anybody cannot do this, virtually everyone on Facebook can read and write, you don’t have to be a prolific writer or a an ordained evangelist to tell another person how much Jesus loves him or her. As long as you registered for Facebook yourself, you can do it, you can tell anyone about Jesus Christ anytime.
Facebook has helped me win a number of souls for Christ, by the grace of God; I have been a blessing to most of the people on my friends list even though I don’t know most of them.
There are others that I have had difficulties telling them about the love of Christ, months back, I was chatting with a lady journalist in Singapore, I told her about the love of Christ and how much Jesus loves her, what he did for her and what he can do for her, she argued blindly and defensively that her religion was ok for her though she was going through lots of depression and difficult times, she later disclosed to me that she was a Buddhist, I later left her and still continued to pray for her hoping that very soon she will come to the knowledge of the truth. It is not in my power to get her saved or even anyone, the Holy Spirit will in his mighty power get her saved in his time.
Another lady I met online, from Indonesia, this lady, according to her story was born into a Christian family, but does not know Jesus Christ personally; she goes to church only occasionally. I provided her with online resources and video materials from trusted sources and in the process of time as we spoke, she began to understand that Christianity was not a religion and the joy of being saved. She eventually got born again and I correspond with her frequently to know how she is doing. There are so many testimonies I have on how people have yielded to Jesus Christ through Facebook. “Sobere, how are you sure?” Someone may ask; their confessions changed; there is a significant difference in their activities and what they put up as their status updates before I met them and after they confessed Christ, they willingly provide information of their personal encounter from studying God’s word.
I intentionally “go for fishing” in every available application on Facebook, for instance, I love playing scrabble during my spare time, in the scrabble application; I get to meet lots of people spending their leisure time in there. While playing the game with them, I share the gospel with them as well because the application has a chat and play environment, although they do not accept Christ immediately, the point is for them to hear the gospel, and I am confident that God will bring them salvation with time.
My friends that have the same vision of internet evangelism have been sharing with me on their success in evangelism through Facebook, although it takes a lot of time to build a trusting relationship with your contacts, it is very rewarding to inspire and change a life with the gospel on Facebook. You can start from now to make impact in the lives of all your Facebook contacts, you can do so with your regular status updates, comments and notes to friends, you could send a heart touching message with scriptural backing to someone you are led to share it with .do not neglect the power of written words, they carry power, especially when it is the word of God.
Testimonies abound on how people have been blessed by messages and words written to them in Facebook. One outstanding testimony is in the group “spread the gospel of Jesus Christ” a message was sent to every member of the group with a prayer backed with the scriptures, a lady testified on the wall on how the words had helped her overcome a challenge she was going through at that moment. Now, there are many others I believe have been blessed but did not testify. God is not limited by the cyberspace; He blesses people that believe in his Word.
I encourage you to get involved in using Facebook for the gospel, you could send a message to someone in your friend list that will change his life, or that will help him overcome a pressing challenge he is going through, you could provide him a word for that moment of his life. Someone devastated or who has given up on life could be reading the message you sent him in his bedroom and is getting encouragement, your scripture based wall post could make someone change his mind on a wrong decision he wants to make in life, your comment on someone’s wall could rescue his soul from hell .
I will not forget the testimony an elderly woman in Melbourne Australia sent to me, some time ago, I spoke with her about Jesus Christ, she mentioned to me that she had been going to church for over twenty years, and that she feels she knows Jesus. I discovered that this woman was being religious. She complained she had an abnormal illness in her body and she was tired of taking drugs which looked like she was servicing the pains. I took time to talk with her about the health plan God has for those in Christ, over the time I sent her scriptures to meditate on, links to Pastor Chris’s messages in his podcast website. About two months later she wrote me and informed me about the truths she found from the messages she listened to and that she had never had it that way from anyone, she was healed with proofs, and she is regularly listening to God’s word online and she now knows who she is in Christ. Like I have been saying, there is no barrier in the spiritual realm, you can speak God’s word in New South Wales of Australia and someone in Scotland will be healed. Very few people on Facebook are aware of this amazing truth. A good number of others that are ignorant are suffering in diseases and terminal illnesses.
Facebook supports multimedia, you can obtain godly inspirational videos and music and upload on Facebook, tag people in them and believe me God can use that piece of work to fix a heart aright and get someone saved. God wants to save many people; he is waiting for you to position yourself for him to use you.

While Facebook is a good tool for evangelism, it could also cause harm to the ignorant. After some years of experiment with Facebook, I have some suggestions on how I feel a Christian should use Facebook to effectively further the kingdom of God.

1. Use Facebook to get back in touch with far away friends and relatives, showing them how Jesus has changed you, as Facebook has reconnected me with friends from my past, a number of them have been struck on how much I have changed. Old mates from high school often express shock and joy at learning that I am involved in the spread of God’s word. This can encourage some to also make the same decision and get involved with Jesus.
2. Use Facebook as an extension of face to face relationships and to enhance time with people, especially those you rarely see. Genuinely get to know and love people for the sake of the gospel, show them care, encourage them in the Lord, with this many of them will be open and honestly tell you their weaknesses. Do not take advantage of it.
3. Allow Facebook help you take focus off yourself. Facebook can actually help you get outside of yourself, forgetting about your own challenges and seeking for ways to help people know Christ the more. Next time you log on to Facebook, I encourage you to spend some time to focus on creatively listening to, loving and encouraging others in the Lord. Log on to Facebook with the mindset of how you can help the dying world with the gospel.
4. Maximize the networking potentials of Facebook to quickly announce and facilitate great face to face events and meetings in your campus fellowships and local churches, inviting people for church services , crusades and other profiting fellowships and Godly meetings.
5. Most importantly, use Facebook to influence other people for Jesus Christ. Create a new culture with regular status updates. Use them to encourage, love, teach and challenge people to God’s word. Someone in Australia, recently told me how he used his status update to express how his reading of the book of Romans was encouraging him, some of his college friends read his updates on different occasions and according to him, the update helped some of them study the book of Romans –that is positive influence.
There are other countless ways Facebook can help you influence your friends, or rather, those in your friend list or to evangelize to people you meet on Facebook. The ones up there are just very few; perhaps you may have other functional strategy already. Since I have suggested five ways to use Facebook evangelism, it would be fair for me to also list ten other ways on how NOT to use Facebook as a child of God.


How Not to use Facebook
1. Do not use Facebook to complain: To various people, complaining has become their habitual practice on Facebook. Guys and ladies alike, even some old folks who should be reasonable complain about almost everything, it’s now looking like a sort of competition. With their status updates, many people broadcast their constant grumbles like”Kelly is bored”, “I can’t just wait to leave this stupid job”, “I am sick and tired of my life” and many other unbelievable complains they make publicly. By all means be real, honest and authentic. Facebook is not a dairy; do not complain to everyone everything that goes on everyday in the course of your life. “I am off for lunch or dinner, some will ignorantly write the name of the restaurant they are having lunch at, oblivious of stalkers predating the corners of the cyber environment 24 hours. Please respect your privacy and beware of the culture of complaining on Facebook, there could be people looking up to you, especially when you seem to be responsible.
2. Don’t measure your worth /identity by the number of your Facebook friends, Facebook measurement are the opposites of the gospel measurement, Facebook tells you that the more friends you have, the more important, loved, popular, accepted you are , the gospel tells you the opposite, that no matter how lonely. Unnoticed, unpopular or loved you might feel, in Jesus, you are more loved, accepted and noticed than you can ever imagine. Jesus is the best friend anyone can have whether on Facebook or in real life.
3. Don’t value forming [virtual] friendship more than real life friendship, many virtual friendships could be a mere illusion, believe it or loathe it, you might not have the chance to meet some of your friends online in real life. Treasure your real time friends in your Church, office, school, campus or neighborhood. Friendship is not by compulsion, it is by choice, any one you feel you are not comfortable to have as a friend in your list of contacts, do not hesitate to remove the person, and do not accept anyone you are not think could be a bad influence on you.
4. Don’t diminish your face to time with people to check what is going on in the Facebook world. Take for instance, if you have been ever out for dinner with friends or you are in fellowship or having a class, and found yourself anxious to pull away and check what is happening on Facebook, you know what I am talking about. Don’t ever wish for a fellowship you are in to hurryly finish so as to go Facebook and chat with friends or check status updates. That is addiction and it is completely wrong.

5. Let Facebook reflect the real you, not some pseudo personality that emerges when you are alone with your computer. Be real, don’t use Facebook to deceive others with untrue claims of business opportunities and relationships-don’t forget that people can judge character with your Facebook account. Facebook has a psychology and many people know this.

6. Don’t hurt others (intentionally or unintentionally) through the use of applications such as top friends or giving an offensive answer about someone to a question about the person and posting it on his wall for everyone to see. Avoid every form of calumny and insult on anyone’s personality on Facebook. Respect is reciprocal. Try as much as possible to be patient and gracious with potential misunderstandings that inevitably occur in the cyber space. If you spot something on someone’s profile that causes any feelings of hurts and disappointment, please assume the best, and forgive the person’s ignorance.

7. Don’t allow Facebook and cyber life in general to make you distracted. If you are noticing that Facebook and online life is making it more difficult for you to concentrate on your real life tasks and activities, I recommend that you take a break and evaluate how this technology is affecting you. Do not allow it to get you distracted or to lose focus. It would be highly irresponsible for one to be on Facebook all through a Saturday night, and eventually sleep late to miss church service the next day. As a student, it would be a big act of indiscipline to be on Facebook the night before a test or an exam. A friend of mine studying in the UK, some time ago requested that I pray for her to concentrate and leave Facebook so as to write her exams coming up in a fortnight, I told her that that one does not need prayers to stay out of Facebook, that what she needs was sheer discipline, I provided her with some tips and she was off, she did not return till after her exams. I am not saying that being on Facebook the night of your exams will make anyone fail, the point I am making is it would be very wrong for Facebook to deprive one from achieving real life goals.
8. As a child of God with a focus to evangelize online, do not allow the excitement or activity of Facebook to tempt you away from calling or work. Don’t allow Facebook status updates like [Elizabeth is chewing a gum] and other lustful wall posts to distract you or steal your focus from the great and mighty work that your heart should be engaged in, which is encouraging other believers and preaching to sinners online.
9. Do not allow Facebook to cause you to think about yourself more than you already do. You were created to look outside of yourself toward others and the wonderful world God has made for you to enjoy and cultivate. Many at times, people are in the business of preaching or blowing their trumpets on Facebook. “I just bought a new jetliner” so that people will post their comments to commend them. Others talk about their “swag” drawing unnecessary attention to themselves instead of pointing people to Jesus Christ .they do so by uploading unpleasant pictures of their extravagance and arrogance for their self glorification and ego satisfaction, hoping to boost their self confidence with the comments that follows. As children of God, the reason we are live is for God’s pleasure, not otherwise. Stop focusing on yourself and what you have, started focusing on others and how you can help them get to know Christ Jesus.
10. Finally do not use Facebook to write negative comments about yourself. There is this girl on my friend list; she is in this habit of ignorantly saying negative things about herself. Few of them like “ I feel I am going to die” I think I am ugly” “I am a bitch”, ”I hate my life” and a lot more other negative comments about herself, I have tried to advise her on several occasions, I am sure other well meaning friends have spoken to her as well. I pray she gets to change her confessions soon enough. Words are very powerful; Bible says that God upholds the world by the power of his word. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Whether written words or spoken words. Words are very potent. There was a time a particular country’s university education was on halt, during that period, students from that place were at home and many of them were practically doing nothing, they spent their time online, on Facebook. As a result of their boredom, many were seen posting all sorts of unpleasant comments and other self derogatory articles or words on Facebook. Let me make this point very clear, people should be careful on the kind of comments and pictures they put up there, they could be used for or against anyone, and Bible says by your words you are judged or you are condemned. This time it is not just words, also by your pictures. I am sure you know what I am talking about. A woman claimed to be ill sometime ago and could not go to work, she was granted a sick leave, the period she was on leave, her picture was found in Facebook where she was seen partying the same week, she was summoned and the picture was used as an evidence against her, today is she fired and is looking for another job. Quit uploading pictures and comments that are immoral and unpleasant. I am sure no one is doing self evangelism, which is telling people about yourself, and how beautiful you are. Decent pictures are alright , not some filthy picture that your mum will be disappointed when she sees it .The same way someone can read a written word and get convinced is the same way you can have a negative written word to affect you. Instead of writing negative words about yourself, start writing positive words about yourself and promoting the gospel of our Lord Jesus and God will bless you.
Another important area I want to address is the issue of virtual relationships; this topic could be discussed in a separate book on its own because of how complicated and delicate it is, however, I will summarize it. Many people already know the truth, but the problem is that they keep shying away from it, but the truth never shy’s away from anyone even though it is often naked and most times bitter.
Truth to be said is, it is very difficult or rather, and it is a wild goose chase for anyone to look for his life partner on Facebook. Facebook is not a dating site where you could go searching for a life partner randomly. There are lots of cyber predators and cyber stalkers online who keep up with Facebook to deceive other people. Please do not come into Facebook with the mind of getting your prince charming or your lady partner. According to a reliable source, about 80% of marriages that were initiated online crash within or less than the first year. There are lots of marriage scammers, a complete stranger meets you online, with lustful motivation he gets from your picture, he tells you he loves you and wants to marry you, you excitedly jump up and tell your mum, and before the referee blows the whistle, you are already married. That is an act of foolishness. I am not a marriage counselor, I am currently not into one, so I cannot tell you the procedure of finding your life partner or running your relationship, but I can tell you confidently, that a social networking site is a wrong country to search for the person you intend to spend the rest of your life with, ask the experts; seek counsel from your Pastor or your parents. You don’t run into a relationship with the same way you run a computer software program, “click and install”, it will crash. Do not allow Facebook to affect your real time relationship with your spouse, for those already married. Don’t allow Facebook to rob you of your quiet time or prayer time. You can control it. Face booking in church is the same way as a mature adult urinating inside the church. I feel very disappointed with some folks sending status updates from the church, during service. What is wrong with waiting for the service to be over?
While I have been online telling people about Christ, I have come in contact with different kinds of people with different personality types, when you are online and you notice people with some of the traits stated below, try to be very patient with them.
The Psychopathic: These people are anti social and they have a kind of psychopathic disorder, they lack empathy and conscience, they take what they want and do as they please, without any form of remorse. They don’t respond when you try to talk to them about Jesus Christ. Many of them are just online to watch events and happenings.
The Narcissists: This set of people is egoistic and full of themselves. They have an inordinate fascination with themselves. They don’t care about others or what others are saying, when you send notify them of your intention to tell them about Jesus Christ, they shun you and make it look like they don’t want to hear the gospel.
The schizoid: People with this personality disorder usually lack interest in others, they are similar to the antisocial, and they prefer living a solitary lifestyle.
Paranoid: Paranoid people are heavily influence with excessive anxiety or fear. They feel unsafe every time and believe every stranger they meet has an intention to harm them. They try their best to keep away from strangers and people they don’t know as much as possible.
Masochistic: People with masochistic disorder are usually self-defeating; they try to hurt those they come in contact with. There are so many other kinds of people with different types of personality disorder. E.g., there are the depressive and maniac, obsessive, manipulative, compulsive etc.
Finally, every missionary or evangelist that goes into a new town to preach has to learn the language of the people where he is in, to be able to communicate effectively. The cyber community has its own language, and for you to really flow with the online audience, you should understand their language so you don’t get wondering what some of them are.













Chapter Five
SAFETY ON THE INTERNET
“

e well balance, be vigilant and cautious at all times, for the enemy of yours, the devil roams around like a lion roaring, seeking someone to seize upon and devour. “ [1 Peter 5: 8 .amp]
Technology is like a two edge sword. Though breakthrough inventions like the digital press, the camera, radio, television, etc. have all transformed the world in their own times, users of new technologies are simultaneously faced or presented with wonderful opportunities and enormous dangers. As we are all aware, the internet is a wonderful tool with many profitable uses, from research to business, to communication and to evangelism.
There are however, an incredibly dark side to the internet, so dark that to the opinion of many Christian conservatives, it should be a no go area for anyone who wants to abstain from worldly issues. But do we limit evangelism through the internet because it is a haven for absurd contents? The web, as a medium is neutral just like other communication channels like the TV, Video, radio, books magazines, newspapers etc. it has no intrinsic moral attributes of its own.
The internet can be used for good or for bad. In this chapter, we are going to examine some ways on how a child of God with a purpose can protect himself from the distractions and moral depravity of the internet. Before we study some ways on how a Christian can guard himself from the misgivings in the internet, I want us to quickly scan through some blessings and menaces that come with the internet.
SOME DANGERS OF THE INTERNET AND HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THEM
FALSE TEACHINGS
John speaking in 1 John 4:1 says
“BELOVED, DO not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world.”

The internet is like a market place where people come to sell different products and stuffs, some are good and beneficial to its consumers while others are mere junks and harmful to the health of consumers. The same way the internet is can be used to promote and spread the good news of the gospel. It can also be used to spread false teachings and fallacies. The distribution and spread of error and false teachings is nothing new. Apostle Paul had to deal with it on many occasions in his days. [Acts 15 1 -7,]
Satan the devil and his cohorts are in the business of spreading false teachings through the internet because he understands that many people turn to the internet for information, he has therefore flooded it with false teachings that are contrary to the teachings of the Bible.
It is not every teaching or commentary on the Bible we should accept, John said, “but prove the spirits (teachings) to discover whether they proceed (are consistent with God’s word) from God”
Again, Apostle Paul while writing to his dear son in the Ministry, Timothy, encouraged him to firm and aware of false teachings. [2 Timothy 2:16-17] furthermore, he advised Timothy to be firm and continue in the things he had learnt from him. 2 Timothy 3 14 “ But as for you, continue to hold the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced, knowing from whom you have learned them.”

Flee from any teaching that is not in agreement with God word which you already know to be true. You may ask how I know that the teaching is not consistent with God’s word. Let’s revisit 1 John 4: 1-2.

“BELOVED, DO not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world,
By this you may know [perceive and recognize] the spirit of God: every spirit that confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ [the messiah] [actually] has become man and has come in the flesh is of God [has God as its source]”
“ And every spirit which does not acknowledges and confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh [but would annul, destroy, sever, disunite] is not of God [does not precede form him]”… I encourage you to pick your Bible and study and meditate on the entire chapter.

One scripture I love so much is Hebrew 5:14[amp]
“But solid food is for full grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary to either divine or human law”

A time should come in your life when you can discern, distinguish teachings and claims. When you are online doing the Lord’s business, or studying other spiritual or academic materials, discern which is acceptable and which is not by the Holy Spirit.

2. GAMBLING
I want to generally define gambling as covetousness which is expressed through attempts at gaining something for completely nothing at another person’s expense. [Luke 12:15]
Today a good number of people online are involved in gambling and fraud, the world has even legalized it and it is now fully functional on the internet. The first online gambling site was launched in august 1995, and according to records, it is estimated that over 2000 internet gambling websites offering various options including sport betting, casino games and lotteries, bingo etc. Gambling, which is another form of covetousness is equal to idolatry according to Ephesians 5:3. The internet has an anonymous feature that allows one browse without identity. Be careful so as not to give in to the temptation of getting involved with gambling or in any act of online fraud.
Beware of gambling and fraud, it eats up like a cankerworm. Also beware of people who offer you some business opportunities online so as not to fall victim to them, do not trust everyone you find online. Bible says “be as wise as a serpent and as gentle as a dove.” Allow God’s wisdom to guide you while you are online.
3. PORNOGRAPHY AND IMMORALITY
The internet is filled with harmful contents that can trap anyone whose heart is loosed or whose heart is not guided and guarded with God’s word. Pornography is such a big challenge and threat to many people.
Ever since the ‘90’s, the internet has being marked by significant quantities of hardcore and soft-core pornography. The combination of anonymity, privacy and sheer lust has made the internet the most lucrative market for pornography.
Unswerving reports acquired from broad research confirms that pornography is a $57billion industry worldwide with $12 billion of the total in the United States markets alone. It is also said that child pornography generates $3 billion annually and mobile pornography, which is the newest way Satan has devised to capture vulnerable minds, is expected to generate over $5 billion in 2010.
It should be noted that pornography is not just an addiction, it is a serious character problem that should be prevented before it leads to eternal condemnation and destruction .Study Galatians 5:19-21.
There is a bulk of pornographic materials on the internet that should be avoided with all austerity. Do not give room to one wrong picture, because feeding the mind with wrong pictures, reading, listening and watching contaminated junks is an express way to program your mind to adapt to those immoral and dirty contents. Jesus speaking in Matthew 12:34b [amp] says “For out of the fullness [the overflow, the superabundance] of the heart, the mouth speaks.”
So how do you protect yourself from this? David advises that we should “guard you hearts with all diligence, for out of it proceed the issues of life” Proverbs 4: 23 [Amp]
Bible also says “Flee from sexual immorality”
4. TIME WASTING AND ADDICTION
Another danger the internet poses to people, especially youths is time wasting and addiction. The internet chomps time so much that people can sit in front of their PC for 13 straight hours without realizing it, therefore famishing other responsibilities and important activities.
A great man once said “when the use of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable”
Ecclesiastes 3:1[amp] declares that “to everything, there is a season and a time for every matter or purpose under the heaven”
The fact that one is spreading the gospel on to the world through the internet should not be an excuse to spend the entire day online neglecting other daily assignments or school work. Learn to use your time wisely; there should be a balance in your activities. As a student, the period I spend longer time online is during a holiday or on a weekend. I plan my time such that any soul I intend to follow up has to be on a weekend so as to spend quality time speaking and teaching him God’s word. Unless for special cases that I go online weekdays to study and send messages to individuals I am following up.
Do not allow the internet rob you of quality sleep , it would be utterly unwise to spend the whole night online when you have a class or an official appointment by 8 am the next morning. The consequence could be very dreadful; it is not the devils fault. Wisdom is profitable to direct.
Additionally, gamming online is a different technique the devil has seized to waste the time of an average youth who loves playing game. A typical American youth spend close to 36 hours playing game online. In China, Japan and South Korea where cartoon animations and manga have significant impact in their economy, people spend far more than 36 hours a week playing games, watching or reading manga comics online. I have seen young men that spend days playing soccer games online at the detriment of their studies, or business.
It should be clear here that gamming itself is not bad, just like the internet and other technologies are not bad, but what is bad is how much time you allocate to it. You should learn to prioritize your time and activities. As a young person, it would be very wrong to be online chatting, gamming when you ought to be in church fellowship. It would be a complete act of foolishness to be watching a movie when you should be in church. I want to accentuate this fact, watching a live streaming Christian service or evangelizing online CANNOT replace real time fellowship with others in the church.
Hebrews 10:25 [amp]
“Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing [warning, urging, encouraging]one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.”
Internet evangelism cannot take the place of gathering with other members of the body of Christ. On Sundays and other service days, I first go to church, participate in every session, when I return , I then go online to watch other live broadcast services.

5. ONLINE FRAUDSTERS
Hosea 4:6
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;”
As a person with good intentions to spread the gospel through the internet, it is necessary to know that there are fraudsters online, and how to protect yourself and your computer from them. Years back, I made a research as part of my assessment for a course I took that semester; the research was on cyber-crimes, how they were committed, their effects on the society and I should proffer some suggestions on how individuals and corporate organizations can protect themselves. I discovered that there were over a hundred forms of cybercrimes and that the criminals take advantage of people’s ignorance to defraud them. These crimes exist and everyone involved in internet evangelism should be aware and careful not to be a victim of any of them.
E-mails. Emails can be hacked by online fraudsters and scammers alike. If you decide to use emails as a channel for spreading the gospel, I advise you open a new one dedicated for this purpose. It would be very unwise to use your business or personal email for evangelism because the more you send out mails to people you know and those you don’t , the more your email address is being exposed to potential scammer, perhaps the person your mail could be forwarded to is an active spammer or fraudster. Do not open an email from sources you do not trust, ignore any message that promises to reward you with unbelievable sums of money if you corporate, they are all scams and you should respond to them.
SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES
Social networking sites are perfect tools for cyber predators to rip personal information about anyone they wish to. You should be aware of the volume of your personal information you expose on these sites. I do not recommend that anyone should put up his contact number or home address on any networking site. Smart criminals could conveniently steal this information for their profit. Weeks ago I was reading an article about cyber security where the writer claims to be able to use just three basic pieces of information about anyone to hack him. This claim is completely true. Beware of the pictures and comments you make on Facebook. It is advisable to read the privacy policy of a social networking site before you register with them. Do not take them for granted as wicked people deliberately register with them to find to devour.
Finally, keep your personal computers updated with the latest editions of antivirus software and anti-malware software. Ensure that your firewalls are active and that you do not give room for hackers to take advantage of your information.







Chapter Six


OTHER FORMS OF EVANGELISM
A
s I mentioned in the previous chapters, internet evangelism is NOT the only form of evangelism and that it cannot replace other forms of evangelism. There are hundreds of other ways to evangelize for Christ. The Internet is just one of the ways. As the digital-divide keeps unwidening, the need for internet evangelism becomes challenging. But what about the millions of souls that are still on the other side of the digital divide? Are they to be ignored because they cannot connect to the global cyber village? The answer is a big no. Apart from the internet; there are other ways to spread the gospel. We shall briefly consider only seven of them. No doubts, many of you are already evangelizing through some of these methods of evangelism.




OPEN AIR PREACHING.
Open air preaching is a form of evangelism described by a person or group of persons speaking in public places, speaking out in the open generally to crowds of people at the same time. It could be in a market place, a town square or where ever there is a congregation of people. It is known to be the oldest form of evangelism.
Our Lord Jesus Christ himself was one of the earliest open air preachers in the new testaments, just after his forerunner, John the Baptist. In Luke 6:17-49, Sermon on the Mount was the first open air preaching Jesus used in his earthly ministry. After Jesus died, resurrected and ascended into heaven, many of the apostles continued with the open air preaching even till today. Apostle Peter began the open air preaching immediately after they had the experience of the Holy Spirit baptism in Acts 2:14 which saw to the salvation of 3000 souls one day. Other Apostles went up to the temple of Jerusalem and other open places to preach the good news.
In the time period of late 1800s and early 1900s, many famous open air preachers in the United States began to preach the gospel in open places like the Madison square and other places where there were heavy convergence. Many of them like Billy Graham, Kathryn Kulhman, Smith Wigglesworth and so many others. They championed the spread of the gospel of Christ in the United States and other parts of the world. This form of evangelism is not obsolete even though it is not permissible in many countries. In many rural areas and Christian dominated cities, open air evangelism is used to win souls for Christ.
DOOR TO DOOR EVANGELSIM
Door to door evangelism is an approach to evangelism where a Christian goes from household to household in a certain area to evangelize to residents; it is often done in conjunction with giving out gospel tracts. When Jesus Christ was still on earth, he often went into people’s houses to preach to the household, and when he leaves the house it never remains the same. He went into Zacchaeus’s household and they received Salvation.
Door to door evangelism is a very important approach to evangelism because it cuts into the very household of the person being evangelized to. It is where the evangelized can open up and relate to you the very things that have been bothering them. They can be prayed for one on one.
Many miraculous testimonies have emanated from this form of evangelism. A certain man in his forties in the northern territory of Australia was on a crossroad, unable to pay debts owed to banks which amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars. His wife took a break on him; he was left with three kids and an aged father to cater for. One fine sunny Saturday a young pastor was on a door to door mission in that neighborhood, when he got into the man’s house, he ministered to him and the man got born again sincerely on the spot. Before he left, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, he prophesied restoration into the man’s life and within three weeks, he got a major contract which enabled him to pay up his debts and run his business. His wife returned and apologized, and today they are living in peace and prosperity, by the visit of one man on a mission. You can agree with me that he would have ended in penury or worst still he would have committed suicide out of frustration, but was rescued by the saving power of the gospel through door to door evangelism.
In your neighborhood now as you are reading this book, there is probably a sinner going through hell on earth-believers who know their birthright in Christ are experiencing heaven on earth- you can take up the task to visit them, share the gospel with them, pray with them. You could save a generation from hell by doing this. It is everyone’s responsibility, not the Pastors’ or the Apostles’ alone. We all are stakeholders in the business of evangelizing the world with the gospel. I urge you to make a quality decision today, look at the people in your neighborhood, visit someone and share with him the good news of Christ.
RELATIONSHIP/LIFE STYLE EVANGELISM.
According to Mark Copeland, in his book Relationship evangelism, he defined Relationship Evangelism as “a process of developing meaningful relationships with other people in which we allow the beauty of the gospel to first be demonstrated in our lives and in which we build bridges (develop relationships) with our prospects that allow the traffic (i.e., the gospel) to flow freely and naturally. That which involves gradually developing relationships with those who are lost...”
Therefore, Relationship Evangelism is where we have enough love and concern for the lost that we are willing to make the effort to develop relationships with them and so that we can by both “word” and “example” share the gospel of Christ with them.
Paul speaking in 2 Corinthians 2 vs. 3 [KJV] says
“Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:”
When people begin to read your life as an epistle, or a book, it draws them to Christ.
Andrew used this form of evangelism to win his brothers to Christ, in

Matthew 5:16 AMP.
16Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and ]recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
Life style evangelism is characterize by someone demonstrating Christianity by actions, in character and in everyday attitude in the hope that people around them will be influenced and become born again.
Jesus drew people to himself by kindness, love and many other wonderful acts of care he showed to the helpless. [2 Cor. 3:2, John 13:15]. We ought to live as Christ had lived on earth. We should distinguish ourselves in our school campuses and offices or where ever we find ourselves, so that we could influence others to Christ through our life styles.
Speaking during one of our Wednesday evening meetings, our campus fellowship Pastor, Stephen Endwell urged us to use our lifestyles to influence unbelievers for Christ, he pointed that when we are exceptionally outstanding in our academics, love , kindness, and other wonderful virtues, we would draw people to Christ. Imagine when you are the best in your academics through Christ and unbelievers come around you to enquire the secret of your academic dexterity, or when you are thriving in your business or career through the ability of Christ that people from every walk of life come to ask you the enigmas behind your achievements, think of how fulfilling it would feel like when you will look them into the eyes to say “the secret of my success is Jesus, come and see” [John 1:46b]
I came across an interesting story on lifestyle evangelism while reading through a book on the Holy Spirit by Smith Wigglesworth. I will like to share story from that book.
“There was a certain rich man in London whose business flourished. He used to count all his many assets, but he was still troubled inside; he did nt know what to do. Walking around his large building, he came upon a boy who was the doorkeeper and found the boy whistling. Looking at him, he sized up the whole situation completely and went to his office again and puzzled over the matter. He went back to his business but could find no peace. His bank could not help him; his money, his success could not help him. He had an aching void. He was helpless within. He did nt know that having the world without having God is like being a white washed sepulcher (see Matthew 23:27)
When he could get no rest, he exclaimed “I will go and see what the boy.” Again he went and found him whistling. “I want you to come into my office,” he said, when they entered the office, the man said “Tell me what makes you so happy and cheerful?” “Oh,” replied the boy “I used to be so miserable until I went into a little mission and heard about Jesus. Then I was saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. I am always whistling inside; If I am not whistling inside, I am singing. I am just full!”
The man obtained the address of the mission from the boy, went to the services, sat beside the door. But the power of God moved so strongly that when the alter call was given, he responded. God saved him and, a few days afterward, filled him with the Holy Spirit. The man found himself at his desk, shouting, “Oh hallelujah!””
From the story, the boy never preached to his boss with words, but with his joyful and cheerful lifestyle, he rescued not just a soul, but a generation from eternal destruction. Where ever you find yourself today, be aware that someone is looking up to you to be saved. “Be ye an example of the believer”
GOSPEL TRACTS
A gospel tract in the simplest sense is a leaflet with a gospel message. It usually contains a short presentation of the gospel in only few pages, and printed in small piece of paper.
There is an old story of how a diver who saw a piece of paper clutched in the mouth of an oyster. The man grabbed it and discovered that is was a gospel tract. He could no longer hold on to himself, he screamed “I can’t hold on any longer, his mercy has found is so great that he has caused his word to follow me even to the bottom of the sea” God used that piece of tract to save the great diver.
Why should Christians use tracts? Simple. Because God uses them. He used them to save the great missionary Hudson Taylor as well as thousands of other great men who have made indelible impact in the history of the world. This fact alone is enough incentive for a Christian to always use tracts to reach the lost, but there are, but there are even more reasons why we should use them. Here is a few.
1. Tracts can make an opening for us to share the gospel. Sometimes we watch people’s reaction as we hand them a tract and see how receptive they are or how willing they are to listen to the gospel.
2. Tracts can do the witnessing for us. If we do nt have access or if we have to limited access to certain places, we can always send a tract to go on our behalf.
3. Tracts can find their ways into homes we normally cannot visit.
4. They don’t get into any argument, they just state their case.
5. Dr. Oswald J. Smith, a prolific writer and a renowned evangelist said, “one good way to carry out the great commission is by the use of gospel tracts.” Billy Graham said “Nothing surpasses the gospel tract in sowing the good news in the hearts of men.” The great apostle Paul said, “…I might by any means save some” I am sure that if this great Apostle had access to the printed media, or the internet, he would carry out the spreading of the good news in full. It is on record that in the year 2000, the amount of tracts spread globally was around 5 billion copies. It is often used in conjunction with other forms of evangelism. Personally I love using tracts because of its effectiveness. Long time ago, I received instructions to begin writing tracts in three languages of the country where I live.
Tracts can also help those that are deafened or with auditory challenges, or even those that can hear and speak, but cannot communicate in English language. I often feel frustrated trying to tell people about Christ and they cannot understand the language, I hear stammering like “em, sorry cannot understand English language “ or “ oh sorry , my English so bad” worst of them is telling them about Jesus and they respond by nodding, at the end of the day , when you ask them a question, they cannot respond because of lack of understanding. Therefore a tract written in their language can help them out, especially when they can read and write.
Now, what is the best way to give out tracts? If you have a tract to give out and you want people to accept it, it is recommended that you don t say something “would you like this?” they would respond and say “what is it” when you show them, they probably might end up not collecting it from you. Instead when you prayerfully take it to them, you say “did you get this?” that question has a two folded effect, you stir up curiosity in them and make them ask “one of what?” That’s when you pass the tract to them. The Holy Spirit will make them feel like there is something in that tract they are missing and need to see.
Some people’s life seems to pass out at the thought of preaching the gospel or passing out a tract to someone. With the help of the Holy Spirit in you, you can overcome the fright you are facing. 2Timothy 1:7[amp]
7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

Again when you have the love of God for sinners, and remember how terrible it would be for them to perish in Hell, that love will cast out the fear you have to witness.
1John 4:18 [amp]
There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love [a]turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear [bbrings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love's complete perfection].
Do not fear rejection or been ignored-that is when someone refuses to accept a tract from you- just smile and move away because they did not actually reject you, they rejected the one who sent you.
Tracts can also be dropped or left in public places like banks, offices, shopping malls etc each night when you retire to bed, as you shut your eyes to sleep, you will have a special prayer point. That God will use the tract you put somewhere to save the life of someone that finds it. That action may be your own small part in carrying out the great commission, to reach out to this dying world the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ.
I encourage you not to waste your life, do something for the kingdom of God while you are alive and strong. In view of spreading the gospel, treat each day as though it were your last, one day you will be right. Why you don’t start now, I mean right now as you are reading this book.


CREATIVE EVANGELISM
This form of evangelism is where the use of creative arts, music, talents, and other creative packages are being used to present or spread the gospel.
In many university campuses, there are a great deal of students with unbelievable gifts and talents; they can use them to win souls for Christ. Last year, we organized a program which we called “show yourself” in my school campus fellowship. It was an opportunity for students to present the gospel to sinners in creative ways they can come up with. Some of them danced, others sang and rapped gospel songs, some performed dramas and the choir sang spirit filled songs. At the end of the day the Pastor ministered briefly and God touched lives and many came to the knowledge of the Truth. Many gave their lives to Christ.
I remember a message I spoke on while my campus fellowship was having an all-night meeting, it was on Youth service, I encouraged the students and everyone present to use their God given talents to serve him, to evangelize to their friends and classmates. Many people already know the popular scripture in Eccl. 12:1, some of them quote it to friends and to themselves regularly, but that is not a quoting scripture, it is a doing scripture, it says “Remember now your creator in the days of your Youth……”, remembering not in thoughts or that he is alive, but in serving him with your gifts and abilities. I encourage you to incorporate your talents to winning souls for Christ. If you have a gift in visual arts, you could use that gift to win souls to God in Japan, they love reading stories on manga, and you could partner with Owengospel Evangel Society to touch lives in Japan with your creative drawing. Most of the Youths in South Korea, Japan, China, and many other Asian Countries have not heard of the gospel, it is our responsibility to reach out to them with the gospel through what they like doing. Many of them are enthusiastic sport fans, others love playing games. You can use your talent as a fantastic footballer or a fabulous designer. Let them hear about Jesus for the first time from you, it is rewarding.

TRICKLE DOWN EVANGELISM
John 3:1-11
Now there was a certain man among the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler, [a leader, an authority) among the Jews. He came to Jesus at Night and said to Him…….”
There are numerous “supposedly” high ranking people in the society who do hid-and-seek to hear the gospel from their born again contemporaries. Trickle down is a form of evangelism primarily concerned with converting these high ranking members of the society. This method of evangelism has been on since the 1780.
The Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship uses this tactic to win many high standing elites in the society to Christ. They hold their dinner meetings in cozy seven and five star hotels where they meet top business magnates and high class politicians in the society of whom are in their social strata. They then share their own testimonies of how they had received Christ and how Christ had made a huge difference in their lives, families and businesses. I am privileged to be a member of one of the vibrant chapters, where I saw Captains of Industries, Chain Store Business owners, whose testimonies are amazing and inspiring. One particular testimony from a man who is a first class King in his territory, (I have decided not to mention any names), the man testified how he gave his life to Christ after attending a Full Gospel Business Men’s meeting, he went back to his Kingdom and brought the light of God to them by requesting that all the idols they were adulating be burnt and dedicated the Kingdom to God. Many other businessmen testified on how they met Christ and the way God had differentiated them from their contemporaries through his grace.
Now, on a normal day, many of these men may not find their ways to church expect probably on a special occasion or event. But through the trickle down form of evangelism, they are invited to meetings like these and they get to hear God’s word and testimonies of people in their class. Most of them eventually accept Jesus Christ into their lives, and they locate a church and start fellowshipping.
Trickle down evangelism was practiced in China in the early year of its existence; an example is the expedition of the Marco polo which resulted to the Mongol ruler inviting the Pope then to send teachers of the Bible to China. They eventually gave their lives to Christ.
TELEVANGELISM/RADIO-EVANGELISM
Televangelism in Christianity is the propagation of the good news over the airwaves.
The use of these methods of evangelism began in the early 20th century with big names in America like Billy Graham, Oral Roberts etc. Today there are a number of God’s generals that have dominated the airwaves to spread the gospel to everyone that it can reach. They are so numerous that this book cannot contain their names; few of them include Benny Hinn, David Ibiyeomie, Gloria Copeland, Chris Oyakhilome, David Oyedepo, Enoch Adeboye , Reinhard Bonnke etc. they spend millions of dollars to use international media in the spread of the gospel, thereby obeying the instruction “and to the uttermost part of the earth”[Acts1:8b KJV]
Countless lives have being saved through these broadcasting, with stations like TBN, CBN, 700 Club with Pat Robertson, LoveWorld Christian Network owned by the Christ embassy ,which is the first Christian network to broadcast from Africa to other parts of the world, carrying the gospel and healing power of Jesus Christ across nations. Lives have been changed, sicknesses and diseases have been healed, HIV and other terminal disease have been healed from Television and radio broadcasting. As an individual, you might not be able to use the radio and Television for evangelism, but your support can do can help carry the gospel into the homes and hearts of people. Decide to do something about it today and you will be blessed.
CRUSADES.
I am convinced every Christian is familiar with this form of evangelism. Crusade evangelism is another effective form way the gospel can be propagated. It is about taking the gospel to the world, reaching out to them in their playground.
Crusades are very expensive to organize, but God uses it massively to deliver Millions from demonic coercions and belligerences. Hundreds of thousands of crusades are held monthly in different parts of the world, every one of them concludes with heavy proofs of God’s power and Might.
Almost every month, the German born evangelist, Reinhard Bonkke, the evangelist with fire in his bones, holds gospel crusades in many parts of Africa and other parts of the world. Also, Benny Hinn holds crusades in different parts of the world. Annually, Atmosphere for miracle, a power filled crusade program with Pastor Chris, sees Millions of people saved and healed from various sicknesses and diseases. David Ibiyeomie, Enoch Adeboye, David Oyedepo, Emmah Isong and many others have had Millions of people healed and saved in crusades they held in different parts of the world.
I have seen the dead rise again, I have seen blind eyes opened, the deaf hearing again, the lame walking, sickle cell turned AA, HIV and cancer destroyed and millions give their lives to Christ in these crusades. God has been working many mind blowing miracles through these men. While in a crusade many years ago held by David Ibiyeomie, the Holy Spirit was present to do many mighty works, a man whose legs were shortened by accident was miraculously grown on the spot, right in the crusade ground.
During a crusade held by Pastor Chris, by the word of Knowledge, he prophesied that there was a man right there that was plagued with a certain terminal disease, and had done virtually everything medically possible to become well again, right there in front of the cheering crowd, the man was healed to the glory of God and to the amazement of the Millions gathered there that evening, if Chris Oyahkilome had not taken the gospel out to the cities, the man might probably have died with that disease. Today he is doing fine according to trusted sources.
Like I said in televangelism, you might not be able to host a crusade yourself, but you can sponsor crusades, in your community or anywhere you are led to, all for the benefit of the spread of the gospel.

When you are an active soul winner, God will be active in blessing you. In the chapter after this, we shall explore some benefits a soul winner stands to enjoy, but before then, we shall look at some great people who have affected the gospel positively online and real time, and others who are also affecting the gospel heavily with their God given talents.







Chapter Seven
THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN THERE
E

vangelism is a commission that has been given to every believer, in as much as you are born again, it is a divine charge you must take on, it is not in any way optional. In fact , it is a command, “Go ye into the World.” In the Christian Faith, there are thousands of individuals that have distinguished themselves in the business of spreading the good news of the kingdom. Some have done it through the establishment of great Ministries and Glorious churches where millions of sinners have come to hear the gospel; others have done it through worldwide gospel campaign, some have carried the gospel around the world by the use of their God given talents.
Mentioning the names of those extraordinary men of God that have distinguished themselves will be exhaustive, the names I have decided to mention here do not in any way suggest that these great men are the only ones involved in this noble job of evangelism.

illy Graham
Evangelist Billy William Graham made a personal commitment to Christ in 1934, at the age of 15 through the ministry of Mordecai Ham, a traveling evangelist, who visited Charlotte for a series of revival meetings at that time.
Right from when he was called to Pastor a small church in Western Springs, Illinois, Billy Graham has been Soul winning oriented. From small meetings in town halls to great crowds across America, India and other parts of the World. Evangelist Billy Graham took Christ literally when He said in Mark 16:15 “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” This great evangelist has preached the Gospel to more people in live audiences than anyone else in history—nearly 215 million people in more than 185 countries and territories—through various meetings, including Mission World and Global Mission. Hundreds of millions more have been reached through television, video, film, and webcasts.

The Crusade he held at Los Angeles Crusade in 1949 launched him into international prominence. A Crusade scheduled for three weeks was extended to more than eight weeks, with overflow crowds filling a tent erected downtown each night.

Many of his subsequent early Crusades were similarly extended, including one in London which lasted 12 weeks, and a New York City Crusade in Madison Square Garden in 1957 which ran nightly for 16 weeks.

AVID YONGI CHO
The great name behind the World’s largest Church with over 800,000 members David Yongi Cho, was born on Valentine’s day on February 14th 1936 as the eldest of five brothers and four sisters. Formerly raised as a core Buddhist, He found the truth and got born again at the age of 19 after being preached to by a girl who gave him a Bible. Subsequently he had the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and later saw a vision of Jesus Christ. He afterwards got a scholarship to study at Full Gospel Bible College in Seoul. It was there he met and worked with Cho Ja-Shil who later became his mother in law. Months after graduation, Yongi Cho held his first church service at his friend’s place of which they were only five of them, himself with Cho Ja-Shil and her three children. By the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the Church later grew to fifty members. It was from then they began to evangelize and knock on people’s door to invite them to chuch, and within three years, they were four hundred members. Satan knew the potentials David Yongi Cho had, he used the South Korean Military to conscript him into the military, however he was discharged seven months later, from then he had never looked back. In less than no time, the church outgrew its 1500 seat capacity and became four thousand members. After working so hard in the ministry, he got a revelation from the book of “Exodus Chapter 18”, he began the Church cell system, he trained leaders of which mostly were women. He applied the principle of cell multiplication with house to house evangelism. In 1968, the church numbered eight thousand members and began its first three services on Sundays. How can one begin to write about a man who has impacted not only a generation but an era? How can one capture the very essence of his drive, his compassion, an inimitable humility? Someone with so much impact, yet so down to earth, someone whose activities have reached the four corners of the globe, yet is still busy searching out for new frontiers to conquer for God. Pastor Chris is truly a unique gift for our generation, a gift we should forever be grateful to God for. In our time, there are countless other great men and women are into the ministry of evangelism, through the internet, crusades, one on one, with their talents – I would love to mention some great gospel singers that have sent the gospel around the globe through the impact of their songs. Don Moen, Ron Kenoly, Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, Krik Franklin, Yolanda Adam, Sinachi of Christ Embassy, Cece Winans, and all others who through their gospel songs have had people come to the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Finally, there are other numerous missionaries, whose lives are on the line for the gospel, they have answered the call to go into countries where one cannot mention Christ without being persecuted, some of them are in the Middle East, Thailand, North Korea, China, the Islands near Australia, the war zones of Afghanistan, Iran , Iraq etc. Personally my heart goes out for them; they are doing a tremendous and excellent job for which God shall reward them both on earth and in Heaven. .
You can reach out to them, you could sponsor missionaries, send them money, clothes, and other beautiful materials they would need for the spread of the gospel. Anyone that absolutely believes in the gospel will spread it, or at least will be involved in spreading it. Praying for these missionaries is also another way to get involved, when we collaborate to do this task of spreading the good news, the world will become a better place, when we combine our efforts to bombard the internet with the message of the Love of Christ, Nations will be saved and you and I will become fulfilled. This is our reason for living, The Gospel.




Chapter Eight

THE REWARD

I
Was going through a newspaper when I saw a big and bold caption written “handsome reward for anyone with clues to catch this man” the man’s name was boldly written on the top of the newspaper. The reward was actually huge. The man was alleged to have made away with a huge pack of jewelry from a store, after killing some of the shop keepers, and from his records, he was a notorious criminal in that zone. It is far more pleasant to remember that there is a reward for bringing men to mercy, and that it is of a higher order than the premium for bringing men to justice; it is, moreover, much more within our reach, and that is a practical point worthy of our notice. We cannot all hunt down criminals, but we may all rescue the perishing. God be thanked that assassins and burglars are comparatively few, but sinners who need to be sought and saved swarm around us in every place.
God is not a taskmaster; the Bible says “……He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. When our Lord Jesus gave out the instructions of “go ye into the World and preach the good news” He was not placing a daunting work load on us, no wonder He said in Matthew 11 Vs 30 AMP]
“..for my yoke is easy and my burden is easy.”

Great evangelist of the 19th century Charles Spurgoen once said “Soul-winning is a service which brings great benefit to the individual who consecrates himself to it.”
For every obedience to God’s word, there is a corresponding reward, of which the ultimate of them are the numerous crowns we shall wear in heaven for our labor of Love. In this final chapter, we shall examine some great rewards God has in supply for his “Faithful laborers” , but before we look into them, we shall briefly point out three fundamental conditions that qualifies one to be a soul winner.
A Soul Winner Must Be Born Again.
There is no way you can tell another person about whom you don’t know. God’s word says in
2nd Corinthians 5 vs 17
“Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!”
If you are not born again, you are not entitled to any reward from God, even if you bring your entire community to Church and they get born again, well, it could as well be a voluntary service for which there is no wage. So to enjoy the great rewards God has in stock for Soul winners, both here on earth and afterward in heaven, you need to be born again.
Now, in case you are reading this book, and you have not met Jesus Christ as your Lord and Personal savior, this is the very best opportunity for you to do so, you have postponed it long enough, this is the day of Salvation, right where you are, in your room, office or where ever you are, you just say this prayer loud and Sincerely
“Lord Jesus, I accept you as my Lord and personal Saviour, I believe you died for me, and you are alive for ever more, I confess that you are Lord over my life, thank you for saving me, I am born again and free, In Jesus Mighty name!”
Now if you said that prayer, congratulations, you are born again. But there are other three important things you need do.
Sincerely Desire God’s Word.
1 Peter 2 vs 2 AMP.
“Like newborn babies you should crave (thirst for, earnestly desire) the pure (unadulterated) spiritual milk, that by it you may be nurtured and grow unto [completed] salvation:”
After you are born again, you need to go for God’s word to renew your mind and your thinking model. You should buy books and other spiritual materials that will enable you grow in the Lord. Remember, an encounter with God’s word can catapult you beyond your own anticipations and imaginations. This is a huge topic on its own. The next step you need is as a soul winner is.
Find A Good Church Around You, Start Attending And Become Committed.
Hebrews 10 vs 25 AMP states
“Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.”
Now that you are born again, seek fellowship with a band of God’s people in a living Church. Like I stated earlier, the internet cannot replace your fellowship with other brethren in Church, do not excuse yourself with the fact that you are watching online services, hence there is a church around you, find one, start attending and become rooted and committed deeply for continuous spiritual growth.
Secondly,
A Soul Winner Must Be Filled With The Holy Spirit.
Acts 1 vs. 8
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
The Spirit of God is what makes the difference between an empty Christian and a Spirit filled Christian. The Holy Spirit is the enabler, the energizer for soul winning whether on the internet or by any other means. Soul winning is a ministry that nothing can be achieved without being in sync or in active partnership with the Holy Spirit. Campaigning for Jesus without the Holy Spirit is the same as a politician struggling to convince the populace of his manifesto. This topic goes beyond the scope of this book therefore; I shall recommend some books you could reference at the end of this Chapter.
Now when you meet these three basic conditions, you are qualified to become a Soul winner that is fit to receive a reward from God for your “labor of love.”
Time and Space will limit me from mentioning all the benefits and rewards an active Soul winner stands to receive from God, I shall share only five of them in this book.
These are some of the rewards Soul Winners will enjoy here on earth before going to heaven to take pleasure in the eternal rewards of the golden crowns.
Sign Carriers
Mark 16 vs 15-19
And he said unto them, Go ye into the entire world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. [Emphasis mine]
Every dedicated soul winner is a sign carrier, When Jesus told his Disciples to go into the World and preach the good news, he was also telling you and I, therefore, when He said signs shall follow them and when he worked with the disciples confirming the Word with Signs following them, he is also doing same to you and I because he has not changed. Watch every man that has made a significant impact in the Soul winning Ministry, from Benny Hinn , Chris Oyakhilome, to David Ibiyeomie, there is a great sign that follow their Words. This is a reward for Evangelism. A time will come in your life as a soul winner, that as you are in the business of winning souls, signs will be following you, I do not want to go into details of what signs are, but I need you to realize that miraculous signs shall accompany your words, and you shall live a life filled with the sign of the benefits of redemption. So to enjoy the signs following you, enroll and become active in the soul winning academy.

2. His Abiding Presence
Matthew 26 19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Jesus has promised to be with all Soul winners till the end of the world; therefore every soul winner is entitled to an army of divine escort in person of the Holy Spirit. Granted, every born again child of God has the Holy Spirit, but Jesus specifically ensured his Soul winning companions that he would be with them always. That is presence. To benefit from his abiding presence, you need to become a dedicated soul winner, not doing it because you were compelled to or because you are following a crowd to do it, but doing it as a response to a commandment, a sheer obedience to an instruction, making it your culture, a habit whether you choose to do it on the internet or through other traditional methods also mentioned in this book. His abiding presence is an earthly reward, which Jesus promised to every soul winner, and He his promises to you if you when you listen to Him in obedience.
Prosperity.
“………My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem” Zachariah 1 vs 17
Many folks have misunderstood the message of prosperity to a point that their lives have now become so pathetic. Prosperity is a blessing which results from doing God’s word right. I do not want to get deep into this topic, but then, prosperity is a reward for evangelism, now prosperity is not just monetary as many still misunderstand; it is a state of well being, body and soul with wealth. God’s will for you is prosperity; it is through prosperity that the gospel shall be heard all around the world, when you invest into the gospel, you will flourish in prosperity. A time will come when all you do is send your money to do evangelism, which is sowing into the kingdom, and then according to God’s will, you will have prosperity. 3 John 3 vs 2 says
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
God rewards those propagate their money, time and energy into the business of spreading the gospel with Prosperity.

God Rejoices Over You.
Luke 15 vs. 10
“….In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
How delightful it is for heaven to rejoice because you have won a soul! What arouses joy in the heart of God is every time a person gets born into God's family. Searching for the lost, and lavishing his love and grace on the repentant, is at the core of God's character. Think about it for a moment, that you have caused the heavens to celebrate. When God celebrates because of you the soul you brought into the kingdom, your life for sure will be filled with celebrations. Reminds me of a fine scripture I love to read. Isaiah 52 vs 7
“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!"”
From far and wide people see God’s glory through you because you are a campaigner of the “good news”, you are a living your kind of life in the “city of testimonies” because you are a carrier of the good news and because God is happy with you. Have you thought about it?
Liken it to being liked specially by the King of your country; he has special interest in you because you carry the news of his good works across the kindred! Think about how glorious your life will be. This is the reward am talking about and it is here on earth that you will receive these. Remembering the words of our Master Jesus in Mark 10 29,
“And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.” [emphasizes mine]
Wow, what a profound and insightful statement by our boss Jesus himself, he said No one, who is involved will not receive a reward Now and in the world to come, I love the final words, “eternal life’ that is to say, when you are actively occupied in the big business of spreading the gospel, apart from the eternal life which is the gift given to you here on earth when you are born again, you are entitled to living with God forever in the Heavenlies. What other reward could beat this? Think about it.
5. WISDOM.
Proverbs 11:30
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”
The world considers great scholars, powerful rulers and rich business tycoons as wise people. But Solomon, the wisest man that ever lived, tells us that one who wins souls is wise. Note that he does not say that preachers, Bible teachers or Bible scholars are wise. In other words, a man is not wise unless he occupies himself with the wisest occupation, namely, to "seek and to save that which is lost."
We shall briefly look at some reasons why a soul-winner is wise:
1) Soul-winning saves men from hell - There is no nobler occupation I know than plucking souls from hell and transporting them safely to heaven. That is wisdom.

2) Soul-winning is the most satisfying work - Even if we are utterly self-centered, soul-winning is the best occupation of all because there are few joys to match seeing a soul get saved. The difficulties and agonies of soul-winning cannot be compared to its joys on earth and in heaven, remember, Bible says there is joy in heaven when a sinner repents… Luke 15 vs 7.

3) Soul-winning requires wisdom - He that winneth souls is wise. Proverbs 11.30
If a person were not wise, he would be occupied with other matters. Furthermore, if a person were not wise, he would not be an effective soul-winner because effective soul-winning requires much wisdom (which God freely gives to those who desire to be effective, James 1:5).


The word "win" is often used in reference to wrestling matches. A wrestler struggles to breakdown the defenses of his opponent. The moment he overcomes one, his opponent uses another to defend himself. A good wrestler struggles on until he overcomes his opponents' defenses. When a soul-winner shares the Gospel, there is resistance from Satan, prejudice, love of sin, pride, unbelief, despair, etc. An effective soul-winner does not quit easily because he realizes the nature of his work.

Winning "wars" and "wrestling matches" are part of soul-winning work. However, there is another kind of winning that is vital, namely, that of winning a heart. A soul-winners' skill and diligence will be totally ineffective, if he fails to win the listeners' heart. We need Christ's heart of love as we sympathize with his plight, plead with him, are concerned with his eternal destiny and pray for him fervently.

Jesus speaking says
“But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared” (Mark 10:40).
Heaven is a place of wealth, fame, power, position and greatness. If you attain any of these in this glorious planet, you are forever made. Heaven is also a place of hierarchy. Satan the Devil was one of the top angels in Heaven. At a point he was not satisfied with his level. He wanted to go higher. He desired to be like God but followed the path of pride and rebellion, and completely lost out of this Kingdom.
Today, God is giving mortal men the opportunity Satan lost. You can actually desire to be like God and achieve it through His Word. You are free to determine your position, glory, power and eternal rewards in Heaven. However you must be ready to meet with Heaven’s requirements.

Do you know that the reward for each soul won to the soul winner varies depending on the situation on ground? Take for instance; there are several countries today where the laws of the land favor the Gospel. But there are many other countries where preaching Christ could land you in prison.
If you put your life on line to win a soul in anti-Christian communities and nations, you will get more value from the Lord than the fellow who won five souls from a nation that allows the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through this, God adequately compensates missionaries who live their home countries to distant parts of the earth – particularly Muslim, Buddhist and pagan strongholds and war ravaged nations.
Also, Heaven is a place of hierarchies and order. After the rewards -crowns and stars have been distributed according to individual’s works, several hierarchies would emerge: One crown no star, one crown one star, to one crown infinity stars are several levels. Then you have two crowns no star, two crowns one star to infinity. Up to seven crowns, no star; seven crowns one star to infinity.
Whatever level you fall, will determine the level of glory (God’s light) that will radiate through your life; the grade of mansion you will live in; the several other fringe benefits you will be given; the size of the Kingdom Jesus will appoint you to rule over during the 1000 years reign, and the dominion of your eternal reign with Christ.
You can determine where you want to be. Aim for the highest in Heaven and work for it today. Go soul crazy! That is one level of madness that will positively affect your eternal rating. The Internet has made it pretty easier, maximize it and heap great heavenly crowns for yourself through evangelism.
Earthly governments, politicians, and ‘king makers’ may deny you access into positions of national leadership; But Heaven’s eternal leadership positions are open for you to occupy by merit. Soul Winning is indeed worth it, the rewards mentioned here are few compared to the numerous ones God has in stock for us.
“…….. as the Scripture says, What eye has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared (made and keeps ready) for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed].” 1 Corinthians 2 vs 9 AMP.






DECISION POINT
Someone somewhere is hoping, wishing and praying to have the opportunity to hear God’s Word. Be an answer to their prayers by deciding today to become involved and committed in the promulgation of the gospel through any of the channels described in this book.
Do not forget however, that your life must reflect your message; you cannot tell others about whom you do not know. If you are not born again, this is the point you need to decide to receive Jesus Christ. It does not matter how long you’ve been going to church. God’s word does nt say “If any man be in Church”, rather, it says, “if any man be in Christ….” because you can be in church without being in touch.
So sincerely repeat these words with all your heart.
O Lord God, I come to you in the Name of Jesus Christ. Your word says “….Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21)
I ask Jesus to come into my heart to be the Lord of my life. I receive eternal life into my Spirit and according to your Word in Romans 10:9 “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth, the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shall be saved,” I declare that I am saved; I am born again; I am a child of God! I now have Christ dwelling in me, and greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world! (1 John 4:4). I now walk in the consciousness of my new life in Jesus Name. Hallelujah”!
