Peterside is gender friendly — Karibo

Executive Director of Youth and Women Advancement Initiative, (YAWAI), Miss Pretty Karibo has called on women in Rivers State to rally round Dr. Dakuku Peterside, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC and ensure that he emerges governor of Rivers State next year.

Karibo made the call at the Dakuku Adol Peterside campaign office in Port Harcourt during a courtesy visit.

‘It is in our interest to support a candidate who already has an agenda for women. I have always argued that women should not wait until elections are won before they start negotiating. Dr. Peterside is a fine gentle man who has assisted women across the length and breadth of our state. This is therefore our chance, and we must take it.

She described the APC candidate as a bridge builder and a major link between the young and the old. According to her, with a candidate like Peterside, there is a demonstrable proof, not only of gender sensitivity but also of competence and performance.

“Peterside’s emergence therefore is an opportunity of a life time. This is the reason the youth and women are determined to sell his candidature among every forward-looking woman and youth who care about tomorrow. He is amiable and has worked with women at different times and on various projects. For over 15years, he has seized every opportunity to push for the advancement of women. It is on record that within a space of six months as the care taker committee chairman of Opobo Nkoro LGA, he started and completed an ultra modern market for women and built a Women Development and Skill Centre at Nkoro.  

Karibo also commended Peterside for instituting life-changing projects like Andoni Opobo-Nkoro Economic Zone Development Summit which he initiated to unlock the economic potentials of his constituency, adding that women have benefitted immensely from the project.

She praised Peterside’s efforts especially in the area of education and called on other well-meaning people in Rivers State to institute similar scholarship schemes in the interest of the poor.    

“This is one man that is gender friendly and as women, the least we can do is to support his aspiration. I am aware that he worked tirelessly behind the scene during the passage of the Violence against Persons Prohibition Bill (VAPP Bill) in the House of Representatives where he has demonstrated exceptional strength and capacity. This bill is a pro gender bill that prohibits violence against women and refrains perpetrators from indulging in any form of gender discrimination”.  

She contended that she is confident of a greater and better Rivers State under the leadership of Peterside.
