Why I Want TO REPRESENT THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

My name is Sobere Owengospel Opusnju and I am running for President of International Students Connect of SEGi College Subang Jaya Campus.

The presence of the International Students’ Connect forms the stepping stone to university life, laying down the initial foundation, of friendship, approachability and familiarity that every international student requires when away from home. It gives me immense delight to be part of this organization that not only welcomes students but also makes their exposure in the university an everlasting memory.

The ISC has an image, and it appears that the main body isn’t in touch. We should be the intervening point between international societies. The heads of the relevant societies needed to communicate more, and to interact with each other.

We need a link between African, Asians and European societies. It doesn’t matter if you are African or Asian – we are all internationals.

I have been the Coordinator of International festivals and Treasurer of ISA in my previous College. I was one of the main people that organized a Beauty Pageant, International Fashion Show, and International Bazaar for my previous College as well.  In SEGi College, I have served as a PRO in the ISC for which my impact was heavily felt.

 If you would like to have more exciting intercultural experiences and learn more about different countries in a new and more thrilling way, and you want somebody that is dedicated, caring and culturally diverse, vote for me because next semester you are going to HAVE A BLAST!!!!, now this is not just some empty promises, it’s a reality.

I understand the underlying challenges currently facing the ISC, I was instrumental to most of the reconciliatory processes between most of the erstwhile excos. I have served in many Organizations and student bodies.
Within my duration of Service as the International Students President,

I shall focus on these 5 key areas.

1        Develop More Internships and Holiday Job opportunities abroad.  I promise to get all the necessary machineries to ensure that International students can work in and outside Malaysia during their holidays. I shall use my wealth of experience with other international students in over twelve Universities to gather information necessary.

2        Rediscovering Malaysia. Several International Students do not have ample information on how to discover Malaysia. Most of them are only familiar with just Subang Jaya, there are more to Malaysia than Sunway or MyDin…Malaysia is to be discovered.

3        Enhanced Academic Performance. With the introduction of my well mapped out strategies to enhance learning, I plan to engage all international students to enhancing their current academic standing. More international students will graduate with First class Honours. It has worked in other Colleges; it will be an honor to introduce it to the ISC.

4        Improved Social Participation. With the implementation of some social participatory ideas I have in the ISC, there will be no more room for boredom for international students who do not have so much friends. This is a tip.

5        International Student’s Right. By Law, every legal International student has certain rights and privileges.  As a team, we shall work together in any kind of weather to fight and enforce our right against any International Student’s Right Violation.

There are so much more to implement here in the ISC. We need a dogged Representative, not some shy, petty rep who cannot look into the eyes of the School Management to say NO to unfavorable policies.
